Nick Sax isn’t what you’d call a “winner.” The anti-hero of the new Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson comic mini-series HAPPY! has been fired from the police force, turned on by his own employees in his murder-for-hire business (well, what would you expect?), is constantly drunk, and is waging a hopeless battle against the agonies of eczema. Sax seems beyond redemption, but saviors often take strange forms, and, in his case, it’s the form of a tiny blue, feathered pony named Happy.

REVIEW: Batman Incorporated #1


Talia al-Ghul has been revealed to be the mysterious Leviathan that Batman has been fighting, and now Bruce and Damian are being targeted by assassins hired by the jilted lover and her organization. Batman Incorporated hasn’t really been seen as a part of the continuity since the relaunch, so everyone wants to know how and where this Second Wave title will fit in.

REVIEW: Steed And Mrs. Peel #2 (of 6)

Or – “We’re Needed!”

I’m always fascinated by names.  If you say you enjoy the character of The Master, it means something different to a fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer than to a fan of Doctor Who than to a fan of Manos: The Hands Of Fate.  (Fortunately, that third option is entirely theoretical, as no such humans exist.)

So it’s a matter of great humor to me to see an adaptation of a television property with an iconic name into comics, where that selfsame iconic name has an entirely different legacy and expectations, to see if the characters can hold their own on a new playing field…
