Advanced Review: The Remnant #4

theremnant4picon.jpg

For months some of steered clear of the Stephen Baldwin mini-series The Remnant for fear it would be full of proselytizing in attempt to push a particular religious point of view.   I’m pretty leery when it comes to these kinds of stories, but those that hint at the end of days can be an interesting read if the reader approaches the story from the essential good versus evil theme, and not one that pushes dogma.  For three issues, David Sacker has been caught up in a mystery of those that want to do him harm, and those that are trying to save him.  Who are the good guys, and who are the bad?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Enter Hunter Cad Bane

ACW_IA_30347_RPicon.jpg

The heroes of the Republic have repeatedly beaten back the assaults orchestrated by the evil Separatist forces, but an entirely new threat – lethal mercenary Cad Bane – will emerge from the shadows in “Hostage Crisis,” the thrilling conclusion to the first season of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, March 20 on Cartoon Network.

Count Dooku seeks to spring a Separatist prisoner from Republic captivity, but his profile prevents him from getting close enough to set in motion his malevolent plan.

Enter Cad Bane, the galaxy’s most fearsome bounty hunter, as ruthless as he is deadly. He is quintessentially cold, cruel and calculating – and when the price is right, he can’t be stopped. Backed by Dooku and the Separatists, he’s bringing his unique skill set and impressive arsenal to bear against the very heart of the Republic. Bane brazenly brings the fight to the Senate’s doorstep, with a rogues gallery of galactic scum as his allies.

Review: Blue Beetle #35

Sometimes Actions Have Repercussions

bluebeetle35picon.jpg

One of the best stories to come out of the most recent Blue Beetle series featured Jaime Reyes and friends kicking the butts of the alien Reach who were invading the Earth.  That battle ended when Jaime and his scarab (the Khaji-Da) severed the connection between the Blue Beetle alien technology and the invaders.  With one issue to go after this one, one might think the tale being told would settle down a bit.

Review: Action Comics #873

The reveal’s been on the cover the entire time

action873picon.jpg

If you haven’t read Superman in a couple of years, now is the time to head back to your local comic shop and pick up all of the issues featuring the New Krypton storyline. It’s a compelling story that features Kryptonians, bad guys, good guys, political intrigue and a battle for the ages.    Action Comics #873 certainly lives up to its name by bringing the action as the New Krypton story wraps up.

Review: Superman #683

Time for everyone to take sides

superman684picon.jpg

If the Sinestro Corps War was the sleeper hit for DC last year, then Superman: New Krypton should be the hit for 2009 (although I think we all know that title will fall to Blackest Night).  Here Superman must decide what is best for is adopted home; stand with his fellow Kryptonians, or fight for what is right.  It seemed like Kal-El would stand with his fellow Kryptonians early in the series, but a single act of aggression has Kal firmly on the side of Earth.  Too bad there are 100,000 Kryptonians ready to fight against Earth’s mightiest heroes.

It appears that the Tiny Titans series is a success (10,636 for July), so why not take it to the next level and bring the big guns into the game too?  Enter DCU: Elementary.  The good guys and the bad guys hanging out in the hallways of elementary school.  No release date announced yet, but the pictures sure look purdy.

Mighty Avengers #12

or, oh thank the green fields, they FINALLY brought back Nick!

MIGHTAVN012picon.jpg

I don’t ask for a lot out of my comic books. In reality, it is pretty simple; non-powered heroes kicking the sh!t out of powered bad and good guys alike. I’m one of those who like the Batman plethora of good guys over, say, Green Lantern or Supes.

So, with my excitement level already built up for Marvel’s Secret Invasion, you can imagine how stoked I finally was to see the return of one of my favorite ever super-heroes; Nick Fury!

That’s right boys and girls, the eye-patched ex-director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally back, and he is going to kick some serious ass!
