Review: Justice Society Of America #17

Or – “An Army Of Superheroes And A Giant Guy With Goat Horns.  Win/Win!”

So, a giant, helpful, kind, trustworthy, loyal and all-powerful gawd is walkin’ the Earth, giving people their greatest desire.  Why, then, do the JSA look like they’re about to void their respective bowels of some heavy masonry?  After all, there’s no way that this could all go horribly awry, right?

Thor: Ages of Thunder Gets New Printing

ThorAgesofThunder_Picon.jpg

I’m still catching up from last week, so forgive all the announcements from Marvel hyping its multitude of sold out issues. The latest is Thor: Ages of Thunder that will be going back to press with a variant cover with interior art by Patrick Zircher on the cover.

“All of us here on Team: THOR – AGES OF THUNDER are pleased as punch to discover that America enjoys the sight of Ice Giants getting brained with giant hammers as much as we do,” said Fraction. “We look forward to carrying that momentum forward through this upcoming time of transition, where we will continue to deliver the big hammer brainings America demands under the new guise of Team: THOR – REIGN OF BLOOD. Thank you.”

Thor Gets Two-for-One Reprint

thorsearchodin.jpgBecause issues #7 and #8 of the new Thor series, written by J. Michael Straczynski have both sold out at Diamond Comics, Marvel is going back to print and combining the two issues into one giant issue – Thor: Search for Odin Must-Have.

This is an excellent little arc featuring Thor’s search for his father hoping to restore him to life. The Major Spoilers Podcast (the podcast for comic and pop culture fans) reviewed issue #7 some time ago, and loved the first part of the story.

Thor: Search for Odin Must-Have will sell for $3.99 (that’s cheaper than buying the two issues singly) and arrives June 4, 2008.

X-Factor #30

or, three issues later and there are still no “save Layla” plans

xfactor30picon.jpg

A new month of comics dawns and I get to return to one of my favorites, X-Factor. But, as the sub-heading suggests, I am a little troubled at the lack of “Layla” that I’m finding in these issues (though, she at least got a mention this time around).

That being said, I can’t help but love this comic. X-Factor aren’t overly fond of authority, and that is just the way I like it

Remember Toy Fair This Weekend

CustomConGroupShot.jpg

toyfairlogo.jpgIf you are one of the lucky few to be in New York next week, don’t forget the annual Toy Fair will be going on from February 17 to the 20th. I really wish I could go because I’m very excited about seeing the next way of the DC Universe Classics figures, including the giant build a figure Grundy.

One of the surprising figure sets that continue to be released is the JLU figures from a television series that has been off the air for a couple of years. I always make a beeline to the toy aisle of the local Target every chance I get to see if the latest figures are on the shelf. Unfortunately, the local Target is an hour and a half away as my little town only has a Wal-Mart, which does not carry any DC action figures (THOSE BASTARDS!).

While we probably won’t be seeing figures based on those above, the custom figures created by Jason Brashear do make me wish Mattel would continue to keep the series going until every single DCU character is released.
