Free Comic Book Day
It’s only a few days until Halloween … tomorrow night, in fact! I just returned from a horror-themed convention named Spooky Empire, held in the Orlando area. All this made me think about the role of horror in the comics industry. I have to say … it’s a pretty big one!
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – Free Comic Book Day is one of the most creative and successful ways to attract new readers/customers into local comics shops ever conceived. Well, following on the heels of that success is Halloween ComicFest, which hasn’t quite caught on with the same vigor. However, I think it’s time to make this event another great one when it comes to spreading the word about our love for comics!
This year’s “Christmas in May” for comic book fans is now over, and it was a big success for many of us. Still, I believe some folks don’t quite understand what Free Comic Book Day is all about, so it didn’t work as well in some instances I heard about.
This week on the Major Spoilers Podcast: The Sixth Gun is back, and it doesn’t stop being good. Marvel Secret Empire Free Comic Book Day lands in stores on Saturday. Also, reviews of Empowered and the Soldier of Love #3, Tekken #1, and House #2.

Word has been circulating on the Internet recently that DC Comics is going to start an advertising campaign in January, running eleven different commercials on select cable television channels to advertise the trade collections of the first wave of Rebirth books. These include AMC, IFC, TBS, TNT, TruTV, El Rey and Boomerang. Not the most watched of networks, but they don’t have to be. Smart idea, I think. Let me tell you why.
