Gamer’s Corner: Player Flexibility

One of the first lessons game masters learn is to be flexible. Whether it’s by observing a more experienced GM say ‘yes’ at all the right moments, or by doing some soul-searching after watching the collapse of their fourth campaign in as many months. All game masters learn flexibility eventually. Most gamers will agree that a game master who is willing to let players push the boundaries of their game makes for a better gaming experience.

But how flexible should the players be?

GAMING: D&D Fortune cards debut in February

Wizards of the Coast have announced a new way for gamers to enhance their Dungeons and Dragons game play with the introduction of Fortune Cards.

D&D Fortune Cards give players a fun new way to survive the challenges of any adventure by providing characters in-game benefits and brief power-ups. Specifically designed for use in D&D RPG home games and the D&D Encounters in-store play program, D&D Fortune Cards are themed so that players can build a deck suited to their specific style of play.

D&D Fortune Cards will be available in 8-card booster packs and will sell for $3.99.  The first set, Dungeons and Dragons Fortune Cards: Shadow Over Nentir Vale arrives in stores on February 8, 2011.

Opinion: No more D&D Minis

I’m not particularly good about keeping up with the latest from gaming companies. So my first interaction with the announcement that Wizards of the Coast has discontinued its miniatures collections came primarily from angry tweets. So I went to WotC’s page, I read the announcement, I thought about it for a bit, and here’s my opinion: It’s not surprising.

GAMING: No more minis from Wizards of the Coast

If you are a big Dungeons and Dragons fan and enjoy using pre-painted miniatures in your game play, you better get to the store and stock up now. Wizards of the Coast has announced it will no longer release Dungeons & Dragons miniatures sets. There may be collected sets available in the future, but for now, it looks like Wizards is relying on the game tokens found in the new Essentials and Red Box collection.

While miniatures were probably never a big seller, having a plethora of figures to pull from for your weekly gaming adventure made things more interesting.
