The Darkness Origins gets trade collection

Top Cow Productions has announced it is finally collecting the first six issues of the first volume of The Darkness and offering them in trade.

The Darkness Origins Volume 1 tells the story of how mafia hitman Jackie Estacado was blessed and cursed on his 21st birthday when he inherited the power of The Darkness.  Readers will learn how the elemental force of The Darkness gives Estacado access to an otherworldly dimension and control over the demons who dwell there. This volume collects the origin of Estacado as the current bearer of The Darkness, and introduces classic characters such as the Angelus, Butcher, and Sonatine.

The 160-page book will feature the original six issue covers, and will be branded as part of Top Cow’s Origins line.

“We launched the Origins line with Witchblade and it’s proven to be very popular. It allows us to showcase the classic tales that established the Top Cow Universe, but also spotlight the more modern tales in our other lines like Darkness Accursed,” explained Publisher Filip Sablik in a prepared statement.

The trade arrives later this month.

Another one bites the dust

armyofdarkness17picon.jpg

Back in his world, Ash has been doing everything he can to keep the Necronomicon safe from the hands of the Deadites.  Unfortunately, the evil contained within has seeped into the water table, turning the nearby town into the walking undead, bent on taking over the world.  And the leader of this group is hell bent (literally) on turning Ash to their side.

Review: My Name is Bruce

mynameisbrucepicon.jpg

For the last two years, I’ve heard the rumors and have seen the still images from Bruce Campbell’s feature film My Name is Bruce.  And while it looks like the movie is finally going to make it to the indie movie circuit, there are still a lot of questions that fans are asking about the film.  Some of those questions are answered in Dark Horse Comics’ release of the My Name is Bruce one-shot from a couple of weeks ago.

Review: Titans 03

titans3picon.jpg

I’m not sure anyone reviewed Titans #2 here at Major Spoilers (probably for the best), as there was a lot of ill-feeling towards the second issue in this, DC’s attempt to reunite its ’80’s classic. Subsequently, there is a certain measure of slack that can be cut considering that DC is starting off telling a new story from page one (for a given value of “new story”).

Jorge Lucas on The Darkness

01picon.jpg

Top Cow Productions has announced Jorge Lucas will take over the art duties for issues #7 and #8 of The Darkness.

“I’m looking forward to working on The Darkness because he is my favorite Top Cow character,” said Lucas, who remembers reading The Darkness issues in Spanish in Argentina, where he still makes his home. “I like the horror genre a lot, and the darker the character, the better. Jackie Estacado is a soul tortured by his demons, a cursed being, and I love this about him.”

Take the jump for the cover and a two page sneak peek of the art changes to come.
