Spock: Reflections announced by IDW

Press Release

Following the smash hit, Star Trek: Countdown, currently third on The New York Times Best Seller List, IDW is proud to announce its latest must-read Trek series, Spock: Reflections. The series sheds light on Spock’s life leading up to the new feature film, and offers key insights on this iconic character, as well as a startling revelation.

“The new movie offers so much new material for Star Trek fans that we knew we had to do more than just Countdown to help create as complete an experience as possible,” said Scott Dunbier, IDW’s Star Trek editor. “This series offers a candid and occasionally poignant look at Spock.”

In Spock: Reflections, writers Scott Tipton and David Tipton delve into the choices that led Spock to live on Romulus, where Countdown begins. Artist David Messina beautifully illustrates the flashbacks that shed light on Spock’s path. The four-issue miniseries will be available monthly, beginning in July.

“With a character as complex and well-known as Mr. Spock, there are the famous dramatic moments everyone remembers, and there’s still so much that lies undiscovered,” said Scott Tipton, the series’ co-writer. “In Reflections, we’re getting the opportunity here to take a look at some of the key moments between the famous moments, and really see what makes Spock’s character so – dare I say it – fascinating.”

Spock: Reflections is a licensed product of CBS Consumer Products.

Star Trek: Spock: Reflections #1 will be available in stores in July 2009.

New Star Trek Series on the Way

startrek.jpg

With the new Star Trek movie receiving a load of hype leading to the May 8, 2009 release, IDW is joining with Paramount Pictures to release a four issue limited series tied into the movie. The first issue, Star Trek: Countdown #1, will be written by Mike Johnson and David Messina, based on a story presented by JJ Abrams.

“There was a lot of back and forth about doing this project, how to do it, what it would be about, but what all parties agreed on was that we needed the right story and that it needed to matter. It had to count both on its own merits and when read in conjunction with the new movie,” said series editor Andy Schmidt. “I couldn’t be happier with the project and what it means to the overall Star Trek franchise!”

As you might have guessed, the mini-series sets up events happening in movie. The $3.99 issue will arrive to the direct market in January 2009.

Angel: After the Fall Back to Press

Angel_ATF_5_CVR.jpgIDW Publishing has announced the first four issues of Angel: After the Fall have sold out, prompting the company to return to press for additional copies of all issues.

“The fact that Angel: After the Fall has moved so steadily with each issue has been incredibly gratifying,” said IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “Most amazing is the fact that we’ve printed more of each subsequent issue than the previous one, and have overprinted to a greater degree than usual, and still the issues keep selling out. The sell-outs are quite a testament to the support from retailers and the loyal fan base alike.”

In addition to reprints, IDW will feature spin-off stories featuring Angel’s large cast of characters, including another favorite vampire getting his own follow-up series too.
