LBCC: Nick Simmons signs at show

Press Release

Nick Simmons, star of A&E’s GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS and creator of INCARNATE, will be at the Long Beach Comic Con on Saturday, October 3rd from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. in the “Center Court” signing area next to the Golden Apple/Atomic Comics booth #555.

Be the first to get a signed copy of issue #2 of Incarnate, which debuts at the Long Beach Comic Con and has reviewers such as Ain’t It Cool News calling it “…not your typical horror story, blending action and cool in even helpings.”

They cannot die. They feel no pain. They hunger for human flesh. They are Revenants. Centuries ago, the Revenant known as Mot was worshipped as a God. Now, he walks the Earth in search of a purpose to his immortality – but when a secret society discovers a way to kill Revenants, Mot and his fellow immortals must make a choice: Hunt or be hunted. Nick Simmons’ breakout American Manga title reveals a world that challenges even the imagination, planting its tongue firmly in cheek, then biting it off… and swallowing it.

Radical collects Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead

Press Release

In the near future, the living and the dead share the same space. Known as “Blue Lights,” the non-living are mostly harmless, roaming the streets, hiding from city lights, scuttling in the shadows. But when they begin to appear as ghostly weapons of mass destruction, Metro Police has only one person for the job: Alice Hotwire, Detective Exorcist. Underfunded, undermanned and under investigation, her department is the only thing standing between the city and certain destruction.

Is the Green Hornet in trouble, even before Nic Cage joins the cast?

Even though Stephen Chow dropped out as the director of the Seth Rogen Green Hornet film, it looked like he was still going to be on board for Kato.  Then came word last week that the company was searching for a no-name to play the sidekick to the wealthy action hero.

In an interview with Ain’t It Cool News, Rogen said

We are reading many, many people from all over the globe, and it is a wild adventure. We’re just looking everywhere, honestly. We’re looking at people who are really famous overseas, and we’re looking at people who are completely unknown. We’re looking at people who are American. We’re looking at people who are martial arts experts. We’re also looking at people who don’t do any martial arts, and who do Broadway and are actors. We know what we want. And there’s some wiggle room. We’re the type of writers who can easily adapt the roles to whoever is playing it. We’ve done that on every movie we’ve ever written. But we know how we want the relationships to work, and so someone needs to fill that general role. It’s been really interesting, I can say that. You meet these people, and you’re like, “You are clearly famous in Korea! I can see from 100 feet away that you are the most famous person in whatever country you’re from!” (Laughs) And I just feel bad that we make them read with us.

Even though the production seems to be in trouble, it is moving ahead full steam with news that Nic Cage is in talks to play the big bad in the action comedy flick.

Quote of the Week: Mark Waid on Dan DiDio on 52

Man, I knew there was a reason Mark Waid was one of my favorite people.  In an interview with Ain’t It Cool News, Waid spilled the beans on nearly every company he’s ever worked for.

“The biggest challenge [of 52] was actually, wisely, kept from us by [editor] Steve [Wacker]. EIC Dan Didio, who first championed the concept, hated what we were doing. H-A-T-E-D 52. Would storm up and down the halls telling everyone how much he hated it. And Steve, God bless him, kept us out of the loop on that particular drama. [Editor Michael] Siglain, having less seniority, was less able to do so, and there’s one issue of 52 near the end that was written almost totally by Dan and Keith Giffen because none of the writers could plot it to Dan’s satisfaction. Which was and is his prerogative as EIC, but man, there’s little more demoralizing than taking the ball down to the one-yard line and then being benched by the guy who kept referring to COUNTDOWN as ‘52 done right.’”

I think this is a fascinating look at the company, and actually puts a lot of what is going on into perspective.  You’ll want to read the entire article, as there are enough quotes that can be pulled that would fill a month of Sundays worth of Quotes of the Week.

And if you are interested, we did our own little interview with Mr. Waid a while ago, where he hints at some of these things…

New Hero Discovered in Spiralmind

spiralmind_1_cover.jpg

Press Release

Since its debut in January, the Spiralmind comic book series has picked up steam and a devoted fan base around the country. Hugely popular entertainment website Ain’t It Cool News gives Spiralmind a big thumbs-up, saying “Not [in] a style you see often in this post-Image era of cross-hatches and sketches, and that’s what made reading this first issue so refreshing. The story aims high with a conflict of biblical proportions, but boiled down to its basics, it’s got an @$$-kicking rabbi, a spandex clad superhero, and werewolves…Issue one also has a full article on Ancient Judaic Exorcism. This is definitely unlike any comic I’ve read before…and a hell of a lot of fun to read… SPIRALMIND is definitely a comic book reading experience you won’t forget.”

Kids titles onto newsstands across the country.

“We want to get our line of Pixar/Disney comics into the hands of every child out there,” said Ross Richie, Co-Founder and Publisher of BOOM! Studios. “Working with KDS, who has a strong record with handling kids comics in the newsstand market, I am confident that we will meet that goal.”

That very cool news was topped late yesterday with the announcement that The Incredibles: Family Matters #1 and The Muppet Show Comic Book #1 sold out on the day of release.

Hasbro and Previews have teamed up for two exclusive Star Wars Mighty Muggs available only in comic shops.  That’s pretty cool news for those of us who don’t have a Target and refuse to shop at Wal-Mart.  The two exclusives will feature the likenesses of Admiral Ackbar, and the Empire’s elite Shadow Stormtrooper.

Each figure sells for $19.99, and both are available now.

Saw this notice posted, and gotta say I’m extremely pleased with the potential behind this movie.

Fellow Star Wars Fans,

The battle to save Fanboys is over! AND WE WON!

The Weinstein Company has decided to listen to the outcry from Star Wars fans around the globe! They have restored the original plotline and have given the movie back to the Star Wars fans who made it!

The film has been given back to the original director and he is currently editing the final version at Skywalker Ranch! The original cut of the movie will be released in theaters later this year! And there are rumors of a sneak preview of the film happening at the San Diego Comic-Con!

We hereby end our boycott of the Weinstein Company! The studio has earned our respect and gratitude by actually listening to their target audience.

Our thanks go out to everyone who lent their voices to the Stop Darth Weinstein campaign, and to the thousands of fans who took the time to email the studio.
When the original version of Fanboys is released later this year you should all take pride in knowing that you helped make it happen!
