Wizard World shows are all about the fan experience. Attendees needn’t be shocked if they run into scores of Wookiees, Captain Kirks, Kaylee Fryes or any other costumed characters, as enthusiasts of Star Wars, “Star Trek,” “Firefly”/Serenity and other cosplay groups are among the more than a dozen fan communities that will be roaming the floor at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, May 30 – June 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Diamond Select Toys certainly does get around. New York Toy Fair brought them to the East Coast in February, and San Diego Comic-Con will have them headed to the West Coast in July, but in between they get to spend a fun-filled week in one of their favorite cities, Chicago! The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) will take place from April 26 to 28 this year, and DST will be exhibiting, paneling, freebie-ing… you name it!
If you are attending WonderCon this weekend, be on the lookout for Zenescope Entertainment, as the company has a number of exclusives and plans for the show.
Conventions are a wonderful time for publishers and creators to interact with their fans while teasing what is to come and having convention only products for fans. With WonderCon next week in Anaheim, Dark Horse has announced they will be offering an exclusive variant cover for Star Wars Legacy #1 that released this week.

With this being the busiest week for the pop culture and comic book world, I wanted to try something different. This week I want to try and find comic convention sketches or art inspired by conventions to showcase. A quick search yielded a different take on conventions in the form of a “Where’s Waldo” type piece by Hanh Ngoc Nguyen.
One of my favorite aspects of the comic book convention is walking around Artist’s Alley and getting original sketchs and art from the creators present. At Heroes Con, Roger Langridge whipped up this piece, and shared it with the world.
Did lots of sketches! Oh yes! And by the end the requests for Doctor Who/Muppet mash-ups were coming thick and fast. Unlike many previous conventions, I didn’t get to bring a slush-pile of unwanted sketches back with me, but I reconstructed this one from memory on the plane home.
So very cool. I wonder who ended up being the Doctor? Kermit? Fozzie? Statler? Yeah, I’m gonna go with Statler.
ICv2 is reporting that Peter Jackson will make his first apperance at the San Diego Comic-Con International to promote the alien sci-fi movie District 9.
District 9, which tells the story of an extraterrestrial race that lives in slums on Earth, will be released on August 14th.
I find it odd that this is his first appearance at SDCC, with all the success Lord of the Rings, King Kong and other related movies have had. But then again, if he was spending all his time going to conventions we wouldn’t have had Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and other related movies.
