3rd Annual Major Spoilers Costume Contest

We’re getting a late start this year, but better late than never – It’s the 2009 Major Spoilers Costume Contest!  We want you to help us celebrate the upcoming Halloween holiday by having you – yes you – send us pictures of your bad self dressed up as your favorite comic book hero (or villain or side-kick, you get the idea). The best costume will not only be hailed as the Grand Prize Winner in Major Spoilers’ Costume Contest you’ll also win your choice of a superhero wall graphic from Fat Head (www.fathead.com).

We’ve got a couple of these on the walls of the Major Spoilers HQ, and they turn a boring room into a “super” one.

Here’s what you have to do:
Send three to four pictures (different poses/angles) of yourself in your favorite superhero costume (plus one sans costume) to us by October 25, 2008. Make sure you include your name, address, and the character you are supposed to be. The Major Spoilers crew, will narrow the list to five contestants (oh lord, let us have more than five entries), and readers will then vote on their favorite. The winner will then be announced October 31st.

Official news on that Gold Key/Dark Horse deal

Press Release

In a packed panel on Saturday morning during Comic Con, Dark Horse president, Mike Richardson called a surprise guest to announce Dark Horse’s plans to develop new comics and graphic novels for the Gold Key Comics’ superheroes. Fans were shocked to see Jim Shooter enter the room; the man recently named the “Steve Jobs of Comics” by Comic Book Bin.
Shooter is perhaps best known for his nine year tenure at Marvel Comics, beginning in 1982, with highlights including Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run on the Uncanny X-Men, and Frank Miller’s run on Daredevil. Also under Shooter’s editorial reign, Walt Simonsen revamped The Mighty Thor and made it again a bestseller. Following his successful run at Marvel, Shooter launched the well-received Valiant comics imprint in the early 90s, bringing many of Marvel’s creators with him.

Now, Jim Shooter comes to Dark Horse as head writer for the re-launch of the Gold Key Comics characters: Turok, Son of Stone®, Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom, Magnus, Robot Fighter, and Mighty Samson, with further characters and new comic writers to be announced shortly.

Trace Adkins becomes comic book hero

Trace Adkins fans now have one more reason to love him; his likeness is featured in the new Luke McBain series from 12 Gauge Comics.

The title character of Luke McBain is drawn to Adkins’ likeness and reflects some of the 6’6″ singer’s philosophy. The story takes place when McBain returns home to rural Louisiana after serving 14 years in prison, having taken the fall for a crime he didn’t commit. He finds himself in a town now controlled by greed and corruption, and he’s the only one with the courage to set things right. Although the book contains some violence, it is generally suitable for all ages.

“The McBain character became kind of a reflection of Trace Adkins’ entertainment persona,” notes writer David Tischman in a prepared release.  “It breathes a real life personality into the fictional character which is something we wanted. Trace helped a lot with that, and it’s something that I think we’ve worked hard to write into the character.”

The McBain series kicks off in November to coincide with Adkins’ tour, and will sell for $3.99.
