I completely forget that, to get this assignment done (this was one of 11 illustrations), I hired my then-studiomate Jason Martin to ink these!
Apologies to Jason for COMPLETELY forgetting that he inked this!

On Monday, June 29, 2009, Disney XD airs a brand new episode of The Spectacular Spider-Man featuring Robert Englund reprising his role at the Vulture.

As Christmas approaches, the SINISTER SIX reconstitutes with SANDMAN, RHINO, VULTURE, ELECTRO and new members MYSTERIO and KRAVEN.  All they want for Christmas is SPIDER-MAN – dead.  Meanwhile, PETER PARKER finds his wandering eye prevents him from being with GWEN STACY.  He’ll have to learn to focus if he wants to get the girl… and if he wants to stay alive.

First G-Man Volume Arrives in May

GMan_v1_digest_cover.jpg

Readers shocked by Chris Giarrusso’s departure from Mini-Marvels will be pleased to learn he’s expanding his unique take on superheroes in this May’s G-MAN, VOL. 1: LEARNING TO FLY !

“Working Mini-Marvels was cool, but G-MAN, VOL. 1: LEARNING TO FLY  is what I’ve been wanting to do for years,” Giarrusso said. “It’s the story I was wanting to write and draw the entire time doing Mini-Marvels so I’m happy those fans are psyched by the collection. G-MAN and company are going to be taking up all my attention for the foreseeable future and I aim to make the long-time Mini-Marvels readers happy!”

G-MAN, VOL. 1: LEARNING TO FLY  collects the entirety of Giarrusso’s Comic Bits strips, showcasing his entire line up of all-ages friendly superheroes including G-Man, his mean brother Great Man and friends like Billy Demon, Tan Man & Spark! These strips set the stage for this fall’s G-MAN miniseries, giving fans old and new the chance to catch up. Also included is a full-length origin story, a G-Man Christmas tale and the complete acclaimed Mean Brother/Idiot Brother series.

G-MAN, VOL. 1: LEARNING TO FLY (MAR092415), a 96-page full color digest-sized softcover for $9.99, will be in stores May 20 2009.

Fan Film Rundown 12: The Lobo ParaMilitary Christmas Special

Tonight on the Major Spoilers Podcast, the crew will be talking Fan Films.  Joining the crew on the show are Dr. Peter Coogan and author Clive Young, as everyone runs down some of their favorites.  To get you in the mood, we’re presenting a selection of some of the films we’ll discuss on tonight’s show.

Here’s a recommendation from one of the Major Spoilers Legion Elite.

In this short film, DC Comics’ resident badass, Lobo, is sent to track down Jolly old Saint Nick. Prepare for the glorious Yuletide Ultra Violence!

Warning: Some rough language and violence in this one.

Doctor Who Gets New Alien Races

doctor-who-logo.jpg

Doctor Who Executive Producer and Head Writer Russell T. Davies to Doctor Who magazine that there will be two new alien races introduced in the Planet of the Dead special.

“After the events of Journey’s End and The Next Doctor I think it’s time to get away from the past and have an adventure with lots of new elements. And lots of fun too!

“The next Special should be a nice antidote to Christmas, with a bit of sunshine if we’re lucky. And with not one but two alien races that you’ve never seen before.”

I finally had the chance to watch the most recent Doctor Who Christmas special, and it was a bit of a downer, so this news has me itching to see new Doctor Who.

New Doctor Who Announced Tomorrow!

doctorwho11.jpg

Not a week, or two -  I lose count when I’m in the Major Spoilers Command Bunker – after the Doctor Who Christmas Special,  the BBC is set to announce David Tennant’s replacement when he steps down as the Doctor.

His replacement – the eleventh Doctor of the TV series – will be revealed in a Doctor Who Confidential programme on BBC One at 1735 on 3 January.

The casting was confirmed over Christmas and filming for the 2010 series begins in the summer.

Tennant is due to begin shooting the first of his four specials this month, just weeks after surgery on his back.

Damn my local cable company and its unwillingness to carry anything but BBC America, which is at least a year behind everything!

Warner Bros. to Fox, “Bring it on!”

watchmen_smiley_frown.jpg

Warner Bros. isn’t taking the early ruling by Judge Gary Feess lightly, when it came out yesterday with a comment about the court case.

“We respectfully but vigorously disagree with the court’s ruling and are exploring all of our appellate options,” the studio said. “We continue to believe that Fox’s claims have no merit and that we will ultimately prevail, whether at trial or in the Court of Appeals.”

While Warner Bros. is coming out strong on this one – and why wouldn’t they, this movie is shaping up to the be big blockbuster of the year – the studio does need to be careful, as Judge Feess is also the same judge who ruled against Warner during the Dukes of Hazard debacle that forced the studio to cough over millions to get the picture released.

Fox, which only stands to gain, even though they are still looking to block the March 9, 2009 release date, is satisfied with the judgement that says 20th Century Fox owns at least the right to distribute if not more.

As I previously mentioned on this site, and which The Hollywood Reporter is repeating in its latest issue, this looks to be a lot of chest thumping and delcarations by both sides before the ultimate big pay-off.  Even though Judge Feess ruling was made on Christmas Eve, he still plans on holding the January 20, 2009 trial to see how far Fox’s rights extend, and how much compensation is due to the offended party.

If Fox wins its case, Watchmen could very well never see the light of day, but considering the tons of fan backlash on this site and the rest of the Interweb Nets, I think this is highly unlikely.  Considering how hard I’ve been on Warner Bros. and some of its subsidiaries as of late, I’m behind the company on this one. If anything, it went into production of Watchmen on the good faith of Larry Gordon, who claimed he did all the proper paperwork and payments to ensure Warner Bros. had the rights to proceed with this project.  If I were Larry Gordon, I’d be on a plane to a small South American country right now, where I could disappear for the next decade.

About That Spirit Movie…

thespiritpicon.jpg

Frank Miller’s take on Will Eisner’s The Spirit was much hyped and ballyhooed across all forms of media leading up to the big Christmas day release.  With that much publicity, it must have done gangbusters at the box office, right?

Turns out, The Spirit has only made $10.3 million since its debut, placing it firmly at the number nine spot for the week.  Yikes!  Movies like Yes Man and The Day the Earth Stood Still, which have been out for a couple of weeks, still did better over the weekend than Frank Miller’s flick.

I didn’t see it, did you?   I’m sure the Interweb Nets and early reviews did nothing to help this movie along, but perhaps it will do better in the the home rental market.
