OPINION: M:tG Welcome to Modern

The announcement of Modern as a format for the Community Cup sent quite the buzz through the Magic community. Presumably due to the success of the format in the Cup and the vastly positive buzz formed around it not only allowed them to turn it into a legal format, but update the next Pro Tour(PT Philadelphia) from Extended to Modern. For the most part this change has been happily accepted by the general masses, however, there are a few squabbles that have come up.

OPINION: MTG Commander

I first started playing Magic: The Gathering out of necessity. After moving from Ohio to Kansas I found a faculty-sanctioned gaming group at a nearby university. Everyone was pretty friendly and I volunteered to take a turn GMing the D&D game they were starting. There was only one problem…

Dark Horse unveils Deluxe Burton items

For those who can’t get enough Tim Burton, Dark Horse Deluxe has announced new products based around his book  The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories.

Springing from Burton’s sketchpads and notebooks, these charming little characters have taken on a life of their own. They are his strange little children, and although some have described them as twisted or odd, as Burton himself has observed: “One person’s craziness is another person’s reality.”

Review: Shards of Alara Block Mechanics

alara_logo.jpg

A few podcasts ago I got Stephen hooked on Magic: The Gathering. We had positive response from out discussion, so I figured maybe people would be interested in hearing my thoughts about this last block for Magic: The gathering. I’ll be covering each of the five mechanics attributed to each of the three-color Shards of Alara.

What’s Up with the Shazam! Movie?

Shazam01.jpg

According to director Peter Segal, the production is still feeling the aftershocks of the writer’s strike.

We’re still working on the script. An interesting little development, but it’s an annoying one, is that after a strike there are residual effects and one was that everyone who was a writer suddenly had a back log of assignments as did John August, so we started to do our re-write process but he had to service some of these other prior commitments. So now we’re kind of waiting in line to get him back but it’s worked out okay because we’ve been working on the marketing of this and getting this going, so we’ve been doing enough to keep ourselves busy and as soon as this movie gets released then we’re going to focus again on ‘Billy Batson and the Legend of Shazam‘.

Well gosh darn that!  Of all the superheroes to get a movie make over, this is one that could be really good, especially if they make it a true adventure ala the old seriels.  If Segal plays his cards right, and there is a really good script, Shazam could finally get the last laugh by out performing Superman Returns.
