Though the week ended on a major holiday, and Dragon Con took the attention of many, there’s still a lot to talk about in all the stories that hit the web this past week.
Rumor had been swirling around about Bradley Cooper being offered the role of voicing Rocket Raccoon in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but it hadn’t been officially announced; that is until yesterday. Read on for the official casting announcement from Marvel.
Bradley Cooper would be added to a stellar cast for director James Gunn’s space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy: Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Benicio del Toro, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou , Dave Bautista, and Vin Diesel (who was most recently cast as Groot).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Bradley Cooper will not play the title character in The Crow remake currently being planned by Relativity. Cooper cites scheduling conflicts as the reason. On the plus side, his exit is allowing others to be considered for the role – Channing Tatum and Mark Wahlberg.
There are still many other hurdles to clear before this film gets to theaters, including who has the rights to distribute the feature film. If I were a betting man, I would be willing to go so far as to say too much bad juju surrounds this property, and it will quietly disappear.
A movie that encapsulates magic the gathering would take forever to make, right? Well not to worry giant Hollywood studio that is certainly reading this, I have done all the casting for you already. I await my check.
After this morning’s buzz that Justin Timberlake was suiting up for Green Lantern tryouts, Variety is reporting this evening that Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Hal Jordan in the upcoming movie.
Warners and Campbell chose Reynolds, who vied for the superhero role along with “The Hangover†star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. The momentum built for Reynolds in the last week, as he was the only actor whose option was extended.
Those that were afraid that Timberlake would be flying around can rest easy, while the rest of you have the daunting task of voicing your opinions below.
Who knew when I went to bed last night at 1:00 AM after wrapping up a round of Major Spoilers projects, that Harry Knowles and his Ain’t It Cool News, would set the Intardwebz aflame on Friday morning with possible news about Green Lantern casting.
AICN posted the rumor that Justin Timberlake has been suiting up in the green and black suit for some screen tests, and may be the favorite by Warner Bros. to play the emerald knight.
Before you get all worked up in a tizzy, Empire Online counters with news that Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds are also vying for the role of the Green Lantern.
As much as I like Ryan Reynolds, we’ve already seen what happens when an actor jumps from one comic book property to another, so if he lands the role there will have to be a balancing act between Deadpool and Green Lantern. I also don’t have anything against Justin Timberlake, he’s a pretty good actor, especially as a deformed war vet in Southland Tales.
Instead of everyone getting all worked up over just one actor playing Green Lantern, let me throw this one into the blender – what if all three of them were being eyed for Green Lantern? How interesting would it be to see everyone who’s been rumored to be up for GL (including Nathan Fillion) appear here and there as part of the Green Lantern Corps as Warner Bros. moves ahead with two additional sequels? Remember, Warner Bros. and DC did hole up for several days last year to figure out what they could do with their properties as the movie studio and comic book company try to develop a cohesive movie universe.
I now turn it over to you, the Major Spoilerite Elite* to talk this rumor out.
*The Major Spoiler Elite are a corps group of fans who visit the site on Friday when mostly nothing is happen.
