REVIEW: Booster Gold #39

Or – “Why You Should Never Believe The Solicitations…”

From DC Comics previews of this issue:  “Forced to face the reality that his best friend Ted Kord is never coming back from the dead, Booster Gold withdraws from reality by running home to his original time and place. Unfortunately, once home, he’s arrested for the theft of the Time Sphere that allowed him to become Booster Gold in the first place!”  Everybody got that?

Good, now forget it, ‘cuz that doesn’t happen in this issue.

Comic Casting Couch: The Blue and the Gold

While the Justice League and Avengers are the big two teams that most comic book readers are aware of, it was Justice League International that really got me into the team concept. While that series did feature a lot of fun stories, it was the teaming of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle that had me coming back for more.

This week, the Comic Casting Couch teams Michael Carter and Ted Kord in the first real superhero buddy movie – The Blue and the Gold!

Booster Gold gets in on Blackest Night

DC has released a glimpse of even more Blackest Night tie-ins, and the one for Booster Gold #27 has my attention.

First up is a glimpse of the cover to Booster Gold #27, which is part II of our Blackest Night tie-in. Here, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle must team-up to stop Black Lantern Blue Beetle from eating their hearts. And as you can see by our cover, courtesy of series’ artists Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund, Booster’s just hanging around, and Ted, well, Ted’s dead, baby.

If done right, this could be a real mind-F of a story. The guilt of the best friend that has died, plus the guilt of having to live up to your namesake equals story telling gold – Booster Gold that is.  Of course the Jamie Reyes/Ted Kord story has already been told in the Brave and the Bold animated series.

More Green Lantern rings on the way

Fans at the San Diego Comic-Con were told that more Lantern rings would be on the way, and if Bleeding Cool has the news right, then you might be able to get your hands on all of ‘em if you and your local comic shop are willing to spend some money.

So for every 25 copies of Doom Patrol #4, Booster Gold #26, R.E.B.E.L.S. #10, Outsiders ‘24 and  your retailer orders, they can order a bag of fifty Sinestro rings, Agent Orange rings, Indigo Tribe rings and Star Sapphire rings respectively.

And for every 50 copies of Justice League of America#39, Blackest Night #5 and Adventure Comics #4 sees you with a bag of fifty Red Lantern rings, Green Lantern rings and Blue Lantern rings, also respectively.

Each ring will ship every two weeks, Yellow on November 4th, Orange on November 18th, Red on December 2nd, Green on December 16th, Blue on December 30th (well, December 23rd now, I guess, thanks to Comic Book-Free Day), Indigo on January 13th and Violet on January 27th.

Rich Johnson has a good point about this promotion over the Black Ring event earlier this year in that these issues don’t have high sell rates, which would mean retailers would have to purchase more, just to qualify for the ring order – something they may not be willing to do if the issues don’t sell.

Easy solution?  Buy the book, get the ring. Problem solved.  DC numbers soar through the roof as Green Lantern fans buy books to get the rings, shop owners get more people into the store buying books, so their bottom line rises as well, and the recycling companies get a boost in business, as Green Lantern fans ditch the book they just bought in favor of a piece of non-biodegradeable plastic.

SDCC’09: Booster Gold’s #1 Fan – Blair Butler

We talked about this some time ago, but DC has announced that G4′s Attack of the Show Blair Butler is Booster Gold’s Number One Fan.

When we first ran the fan club image, some of the Major Spoilerite Legion wanted to get the image on a T-Shirt.  Well, your wish is granted thanks to Graphitti Designs.  While the shirts are on sale at the San Diego Comic Con now, let’s hope the shirt is available through Previews or other outlets in the near future.

Who is Booster Gold’s number one fan?

DC teases us this morning with only a small portion of the cover to Booster Gold #23.  Who would have thought Booster Gold would have a fan club and that he would have a number one fan.  DC promises to share more of the cover image as the issue release date approaches.

Blue and Gold together again, sorta

BlueBeetlePicon.jpg

As the saying goes, “You can’t keep a good man down,” and that is so true when it comes to the Blue Beetle.  DC is starting to come around to the backup story in comics, by adding the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle to the Booster Gold series.  The backups will be written by Matt Sturges, with Mike Nortan taking on the art duties.

Booster Gold Goes Brave and the Bold

Booster Gold makes an appearance on Batman: The Brave and the Bold airing this week on the Cartoon Network.  Now if there could only be a flashback story featuring Booster and Ted Kord, that would rock.

Review: Booster Gold #19

Oh boy, time travel really does a number on the head

Booster_Gold_19Picon.jpg

With the latest installment of Booster Gold, Dan Jurgens gets the chance to write a scene where Booster Gold and Booster Gold have a heart to heart.  Don’t worry, the universe doesn’t annihilate itself, but it will warp your head.
