Back to the Future goes Blu-Ray

In Back to the Future 2, the alleys were full of used laser discs, and now we know the reason – the Back to the Future trilogy is coming to Blu-Ray in October.

On October 26, 1985, Marty McFly took the driver’s seat in Dr. Emmet Brown’s DeLorean and introduced audiences to Back to the Future, a journey that launched a new era of moviemaking magic and reinvented the adventure-comedy genre.  The film, which spent 11 weeks at #1 at the U.S. box office, boasts a legendary Hollywood pedigree that includes director Robert Zemeckis, executive producers Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy, producer and screenwriter Bob Gale and producer Neil Canton.  Accompanying Fox and Lloyd on their warp-speed tour of McFly family history are an array of stars including Lea Thompson (“Caroline in the City”), Crispin Glover (Hot Tub Time Machine), Thomas F. Wilson (“Big Love”), Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), Billy Zane (Titanic), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Mary Steenburgen (The Proposal) as well as 1980s musical icons Huey Lewis and ZZ Top.

One of my favorite movies of all time, Back to the Future that hit at just the right time in my growth, as most of the other time travel movies were either made in the 50s, or didn’t make time travel a side element in a much bigger story.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars headed to DVD with extras galore

Lucasfilm has announced the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars complete first season DVD, and has promised it will be filled with extras that give viewers a chance to see how the show is put together from beginning to end.

“I’m a longtime Star Wars fan, and the same’s true for a lot of the guys working on the show,” said supervising director Dave Filoni. “And as a fan, I know that Lucasfilm can be pretty secretive. They’re famous for it. But we’re all so proud of the work that’s gone into The Clone Wars, and we wanted to share some of our production tricks, and open up the vault and reveal our efforts. You’re going to get unprecedented access, to see the nuts and bolts of our series – from concept to finished animation.”

All those extras appear in The Jedi Temple Archives, which are exclusive to the Blu-Ray DVD edition of the series.

“The live-action saga was just the beginning. The universe is vast, and there are so many more stories to explore beyond Anakin’s fall and redemption,” said series creator and executive producer George Lucas. “The scope of the war gives us the perfect vehicle for a weekly series, allowing us to look at how the conflict has affected the farthest reaches of the galaxy, including characters, creatures and races we only glimpsed in the feature films. Animation has allowed us to visualize the worlds and characters of Star Wars in all new ways.”

Take the jump for the breakdown of what is included in the collection, that arrives in stores on November 3, 2009.

How trippy would this have been had PIXAR gone ahead and followed this story through?

The film was to see an egg laid by Kevin being a fountain of youth. “Muntz wanted the egg because it was this youth potion that made you grow young,” says Docter. Carl was supposed to be protecting the egg throughout the movie.

Fortunately, the team realized it might have been a little over the top for such a heart-breaking movie, and opted to drop it from the final production.  However, you will get to see the storyboard sequence and director commentary when UP hit’s Blu-Ray this fall.
