Quantum Mechanix unveils Little Frakkin’ series

Battlestar Galactica may be over, but the fun of being one of the last survivors of the human race being hunted down by cyborgs continues with Quantum Mechanix Little Frakkin’ series.  A large number of companies are taking properties and tooning characters up to create a unique line of statues that are sure to start a conversation when displayed on the bookshelf.

Little Frakkin’ Colonials Starbuck Animated Maquette is a cool take on Kara Thrace that stands six-inches tall, and is limited to 1,000 unites.  Likewise, the Cylon Centurion Animated Maquette makes the robot feel a little more friendly.  Still, if it were hunting me down, I doubt I’d want to hug and snuggle the thing.

Both are available for pre-order now, and sell for $69.95 each.

Buy Battlestar Galactica Props

cylonraider.jpg

Last week, we told you about the Profiles in History auction where you can spend your hard earned cash to own a piece of Hollywood memorabilia.  Digging around the World Web Internets like we always do, lead us to discover another auction coming up in January that is auctioning off a ton of Battlestar Galactia props.

What looks good on this list? In addition to detailed set plans and sketches, Tricia Helfer’s red dress is sure to get someone’s interest.  You’re going to have to spend between $10,000 and $12,000 to get it, and it doesn’t come with Tricia Helfer.  The one I want?  The full size Cylon Raider, made of metal, foam, and wood, that measures 29 feet by 18.6 feet by 4.8 feet.  Whoever pays the $40,000 for this is going to need a warehouse to store this thing.  One day, when Major Spoilers makes a huge profit, and Major Spoilers HQ buys its own building, we’ll get one of these for the lobby.

The auction takes place on Saturday, January 17, 2009 and Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Pasadena Convention Center.  If you can’t afford, check out preview day, which is open to the public.

NOTE:  If anyone goes to this, let me know, we want lots of pictures!

Caprica Gets the Green Light

water_caprica_city.jpg

The Sci Fi Channel has given the green light to the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica.

“Caprica” will star Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales, Paula Malcomson and Polly Walker, and will be set 50 years prior to “Galactica’s” seminal attack on human civilization by those dreaded ‘droids the Cylons. Family-drama-themed series will focus on the Earthlike planet of Caprica as two rival families deal with, among other topical issues, the broader implications of their society’s emerging artificial intelligence technology sector.

The two-hour pilot is already complete, and the channel is looking at a 2010 launch date. I really like the current BSG series, but I’ve got mixed feelings about Caprica.  There isn’t going to be any space travel shoot’em ups, and the prospect of a drama discussing the rival families amidst the rise of A.I. seems rather CW in nature.
