AWARD: Kevin Keller named GLAAD Media Award Winner

The Archie Comics ongoing series Kevin Keller was announced as this year’s winner for Outstanding Comic Book at the final round of the GLAAD Media Awards, presented Saturday evening in San Francisco. Writer/artist Dan Parent, who introduced the world to the character in 2010, was in attendance to collect the statuette in person.

AWARDS: Three Archaia titles selected for YALSA’s 2013 Great Graphic Novels For Teens list

Batman XXX: A Porn Parody wins at 2011 AVN Awards

It was definitely a big night for Axel Braun, as the director took home 14 AVN awards, 7 of which for his blockbuster hit “Batman XXX: A Porn Parody” distributed exclusively by Vivid Entertainment. The sexy spoof of the 60′s TV show was honored for Best Parody, Best Renting and Selling Title of the Year, Best Screenplay, Best DVD Menus, Best Overall Marketing Campaign, Best Supporting Actor (Evan Stone, for his terrific turn as The Riddler), and Best Supporting Actress (Lexi Belle for her sexy portrayal of Batgirl). Braun, who during the ceremony was inducted in the AVN Hall of Fame and won more awards for his parodies of Avatar and Glee, also took home trophies for Director of the Year-Body of Work, while his namesake studio Axel Braun Productions was named Best New Production Company.

DC Comics voted publisher of the year

This might come as a surprise to fans of that other publisher, but DC Comics was named Comic Book Publisher of the Year by Diamond Comic Distributors during it’s 2009 Diamond Gem Awards.

“The ‘Gemmies’ are a fantastic opportunity for comic book retailers to honor suppliers and products that helped their businesses remain strong, despite a challenging economy,” said Diamond President and CEO Steve Geppi. “We congratulate the 2009 Gem Award winners, who truly deserve this recognition, and look forward to many more years of excellence from these and all of the valued publishers and suppliers that keep our industry growing.”
