REVIEW: Avengers #2

Or – “Are All The Marvel Books on Bi-Weekly Shipping Schedules?”

Last issue, a mysterious villain from beyond space defeated the Avengers, allowing only Captain America to escape, but also allowing him to pull together another team of Avengers, one that he and Iron Man had been working with in the name of “getting bigger.”  He’s got more power, and they’re certainly bigger, but will these new Avengers be able to pull off the big save?  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: Avengers #1

Or – “Relaunch-O-Rama!”

I’ve been a comics reader for a long time, but the current method of operations at the Big Two leads itself to a lot of cyclical patterns.  This issue is the second Avengers #1 in the last three years, and the fourth or fifth overall, but, coming at the characters peak of popularity, it kind of makes sense to relaunch this book right now.  The big question, though, is what Marvel is going to do to differentiate this from the last ten years of Bendis-driven Avengers stories…  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: Avengers Academy #39 (of 39)

Or – “I Am Going To Miss This Book…”

Of all the things to launch out of Dark Reign, I think Avengers Academy was my favorite, featuring an interesting array of characters (albeit all with really boring costumes) and a premise that worked.  Even the use of Avengers with their own history of problems (Giant-Man, Tigra, Justice, Speedball and Quicksilver are like a laundry list of bad decisions) was compelling, but things in the Marvel Universe change with speed and ferocity, with a new day dawning on the Avengers Academy.  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: A + X #1

This title promotes a simple concept: one Avenger and one X-Men member team-up on an adventure. Some team-ups will draw on their similar backgrounds, like Captain America and Cable being time-lost soldiers. Other team-ups will share a history together, like Wolverine and the Hulk. However, can these two different sides get along after Avengers versus X-Men?

REVIEW: Avengers #32

Or – “Is Everything Really As It Seems?”

One (somewhat valid) criticism of the Avengers franchise under Brian Bendis has been that the characters never follow up on anything.

Nazi agents attack Washington?  Set ‘em up & knock ‘em down!
Aliens infiltrating your ranks?  Set ‘em up & knock ‘em down!
One of your founding members blowed up?  Set ‘em up & knock ‘em down!

You’d think that geniuses like these would know that things come back around to bite you if you don’t pay attention.  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

TELEVISION: Agent Coulson lives on in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Arguably the strongest moment in the Avengers was when Agent Coulson met his demise. The impact of his death sent waves of mourning throughout the comic book/movie cultures as we realized a character we had come to love through his recurring appearances on the screen would never be seen again. But this is comics we are talking about so the possibility of his “resurrection” is slightly higher and it appears it will be happening when Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. comes to television.
