SyFy wants Alien Nation redux

It worked for Battlestar Galactica, so why not try it with another television series from days gone by?  The Syfy Channel is looking to remake Alien Nation into a new updated television series.

“Alien Nation” centers on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner, set against the larger tale of alien “newcomers” who move to Earth and attempt to assimilate into society.

Tim Miner of Angel, X-Files, Firefly, and Strange World fame is currently writing the first script.

Alien Nation was a very good movie, and an intriquing television series as it gave the creators a platform to talk about immigration and racism without singling out a particular race.  It jumped around a bit, and ended up spawning a series of made for television movies as a way to wrap up the big arc.  If SyFy brings the goods like it did with Battlestar, then I’m sure it will work out just fine.

Captain Britain kindly kicked to the curb

Yesterday, Paul Cornell confirmed what had been rumored for some time – Captain Britain and MI: 13 were getting the axe by Marvel.

Lastly, and this is really important, while we didn’t know this would be the last arc until comparatively recently, I had it in mind that it was possible it would be from the time I started plotting it. Indeed, the end of this arc marks the end of what I had planned for the book when I started. One of the images right at the finish is what I always felt I was heading towards, and I’m very pleased I got there. So: you will get a real, thorough, proper, ending, not just of ‘Vampire State’, but of the whole run. It hasn’t been rushed to fit the space, it hasn’t been compromised, it won’t just suddenly cut off: it’s what I intended.I think the Annual and the two remaining issues finish off one of my best stories in any media, and that story is actually the entirety of Captain Britain and MI-13.You’ll see what I mean a bit more next issue. This is a comic with a proper ending.

It’s interesting Marvel is giving the series the ol’ Heave-Ho as the last couple of months the title has finished in the top half of all comics being sold.  In April, issue #12 sold an estimated 20,000 issues, while Wolverine: First Class #14 sold a mere 14,000 copies, and it doesn’t appear Wolverine is being canceled any time soon.

At least the series is getting a proper send off.

Boom! Studios Expands Zombie Genre Comics with 28 Days Later

28DaysLater_001B_b.jpg

28DaysLater_001A_b.jpgBoom! Studios is on a role lately with all the properties it has been acquiring to turn into comics.  Announced over the weekend that the first title released in the partnership with Fox Atomic Comics will be the running zomibe thriller 28 Days Later.

Initial launch story will be firmly based in 28 DAYS LATER continuity with the first arc focusing on Selena. Bridging the gap between 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER, a few key questions will be answered along the way: what happened to Selena after 28 DAYS LATER? How did Selena happen upon the machete she wields in 28 DAYS LATER?

The 28 Days Later series will kick off in July.  And while no other projects were announced at the Emerald City ComiCon 2009, taking a look at Fox Atomic’s other movies tend to be a good indicator of the things to come.  My guess is we’ll see The Hills Have Eyes, more from The Nightmare Factory, and plenty more 28 Days Later stories down the road.

Superman/Batman Next DC Animated Movie

superman_batman_public_enemies_700x278.jpg

The first arc of the Superman/Batman series by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness has been confirmed by several online sources as the next DC animated feature to follow Green Lantern: First Flight.

If the animated film is true to the series, it will feature President Lex Luthor framing Batman and Superman as enemies to the world as a Kryptonite asteroid heads toward Earth.  He then offers up a one million billion dollar reward to bring the two in.  This then leads to giant rocket ships, Captain Atom and Hawkman making appearances, and concludes with Luthor in his famous green armored suit proclaiming the day of reconning is coming.

While it sounds corny, the first arc wasn’t too bad and if done in the Ed McGuinness style, it could be a really good direct to DVD movie.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is expected to hit stores in the fall.

UPDATE:  Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Home Video

United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a
kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty
on the heads of the Man of Steel and his “partner in crime” Batman.
Super heroes and super villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of
Superman and Batman, who must unite – and recruit super help – to
stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover
Luthor’s devious plot to take command of far more than North America.

Review: Batman Confidential #25

Wait, I’m still reading this?

batmanconfidential25picon.jpg

Don’t know how it got into my pull pile this week, but Batman Confidential once again slipped into my weekly bag of goodness, which means I buy it, I read it.  And in many cases, I review it on this site.  The most recent arc in Batman Confidential features The Joker causing all sorts of hijinks and giving no end of trouble to the police and to the Batman.  In this concluding chapter, we not only find out how Batman keeps the Joker at bay, but also the point of this Confidential arc.
