The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the next group of confirmed guest for the 2013 show, taking place the weekend of September 7-8, 2013. Mark Buckingham, Dave Gibbons, Adam Hughes, Paul Levitz, George Perez, Walter Simonson, Louise Simonson, and Allison Sohn will all be attending our 14th Annual show !
DC’s attempt at capitalizing on the success of Watchmen with the release of the prequel series has been successful in a purely monetary sense. Each new release has been, for the most part, a top seller, all the while receiving lukewarm reviews from critics and fans alike. Over the last decade, statues have been fighting comic books and trade paperbacks for shelf space in the Major Spoilers Nerd Room of Doom. There’s something about a three dimensional sculpt that brings the four color character to life. But what good are these statues (limited run, mass produced, and so on), if you can’t share their beauty with others?
This week, we kick off a really long series of galleries of some of the statues in our vast collection, and we’re starting with the Women of the DC Universe.
When it comes to drawing beautiful women, Adam Hughes is at the top of the list. The artist did a warm up sketch of Zatanna (he’s taking over cover duties beginning with issue #11), and that Copic marker on drawing paper just fetched $3,270 on eBay.
Some really don’t like how Adam Hughes takes characters and makes them sexy. Some might say, he makes characters too sexy, but those people would be wrong, and need to seek medical attention immediately. Way back when Hughes was doing G.I. JOE cover work, his original rendition of The Baroness was rejected, forcing him to tweak the design. Take the jump to see the original submission, and the redo (which was also rejected).
I’m in the mood to feature some Adam Hughes art today, as I know it drives some of you insane when you see a girl with big boobs and a tiny waist. This time, I think I might agree with you as Hughes offers up an image that looks really great on the top half of the body, but I think she looks too boney on the lower half. And yes, I’m waiting to see how long it takes someone to make a comment that includes Bone, Body, and Lower Half… pervs.
Adam Hughes has been absent from the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day for a while now, so we’re attempting to rectify that oversight with his take on famous female comic book heroes.
The Mid-Ohio-Con announced that famed artist Adam Hughes has joined the guest list of big names that will be appearing at the comic book convention.
Adam began working in comics in 1985 at the age of 19 and in 1989 he started on his first mainstream comic title with DC’s Justice League. He worked on the book for almost 2 years, doing covers and interiors until 1990, then switching to just supplying artwork for the covers. In 1998 he began a highly successful five-year run as cover artist on DC’s Wonder Woman, bringing him critical acclaim and commercial success while solidifying his status as an all-star creator with legions of fans.
During the course of his career, Adam has brought his unique style to a broad array of titles for indie and mainstream publishers alike, including Star Wars for Dark Horse, Catwoman, Justice League, Legion of Superheroes, Power Girl, and Wonder Woman for DC, Gen13, Savage Dragon and Tomb Raider for Image, and Sensational She-Hulk and X-Men for Marvel, among many other titles. With the highly successful release of Cover Run: The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes, Adam’s work is in high demand and we look forward to seeing new projects from the creator in the future.
The organizers of the convention said they are super excited about Hughes being part of the show, and I will echo that claim. If you have never been to a convention where Hughes is present, and you haven’t seen his original art up close, then you are missing out. This may be your chance to see the master when the Mid-Ohio=Con kicks off November 6, 2010 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, in Columbus, Ohio.
