The Major Spoilers Podcast crew gave their recommendations for trade paperbacks you should buy and read.  Now it is your turn to help us build the definitive list.

Take the poll above and vote for your favorite trade from the list.  When the poll closes, we should have the titles ranked from number 1 to number 30.

Absolute Sandman (vol 1 and 2) not only is Neil Gaiman's writing and the artwork from various artists amazing, the book itself is of the highest quality. It's easily the centerpiece of any bookshelf.

Again, this is like trying to chose a favorite child!  Wink

With as many great books as you all included on this list, I got to say that the must own one is The Green Hornet Hardcover. I had all these individual issue from the first run, and the first year of the second. After the fire, this hardback was one of the first I hunted down (at a little comic shop in Memphis.) Out of all of these, I think it is the perfect book to have because it shows how a character can be updated for a modern audience, while still staying true to the source material. It incorporates elements from the original comics, the radio shows, the television shows and more. To learn the connection with the Lone Ranger is worth the price of admission.

Of course, Green Hornet is one of my top 10 favorites charactes of all time.  Grin

This is a tough one, and I have to carefully consider my vote for the best trade.  If we're talking straight trades for me, it's The Walking Dead ... however if we are going to look at the composition of the various hardcovers out there .... that's a whole other story.

Some of the notables: Invincible, DC: The New Frontier, & Watchmen are essentials and I eagerly throw them in the face of anyone who is remotely interested.

I still have to ponder this one though ...

I've fallen so far behind in listening to the podcasts, so now I really have to listen to figure out what some of them are doing there. (The Spider-Man/Juggernaut has me curious.) I think there are only a few in that list that I have read. But it doesn't really mater to me, though. I'm voting for Bone.

Coming in at an impressive eleventy-bajillion pages, the complete Bone saga is an incredible read, and great for all ages. It's got a little bit of everything in it: humor, romance, epic battles, mystery, drama, great characters, and cow races. I started reading the original issues after Image began publishing it, and I think I made it up to issue 25 or so before I had to go to college and give up comics cold turkey. When I found out a couple of years ago that the whole thing was collected in one volume for about $30 (amazon) I couldn't order fast enough.

In high school, my senior year english teacher was a published children's author. I let her borrow the first few issues and she loved them. When I got married last year, I got another copy of the one volume edition for one of my groomsmen, who is an artist and a big comics fan. He said it was one of the best comics he's ever read. The fact that it's in black and white and he's color blind probably didn't hurt either.  Grin

Seriously? That almost derailed my return to steady comic reading.  Ugh.

Really? No love for Watchmen? I made an account simply to give it a vote. That book isn't just the greatest trade ever, it spans mediums. It's one of the best creative works ever. I went into this going, "Oh, this isn't even fair. Watchmen is just a completely different piece of work, it stands alone, outside of the comic book realm. Hell, I know mom's who have read fucking Watchmen. Why even do that to the others? That'll win hands down." Wow, I was wrong. But this is a great list of books, just incredible. Good work men.

everybody love watchmen, except my roommate, but i voted for Bone because it's just an amazing story for everybody, from your kids to your grandmother with gorgeous art. i personally prefer the B&W edition, but the color edition are great too. i wish they'd release a 'one volume color edition'

house of M, with other factor in my life, made me stop buying comics for a almost 2 years. now i buy only collected editions, but nothing from a big summer event like house of M or secret invasion (no trade yet, i know, i'm just saying).

I would like to thank schleicher12000 for putting this poll together.  I plan on adding the top 5 or 10 to my list of comics to buy.  I have just recently convinced my wife to give me an allowance so I can buy comics every month.  So, this list has perfect timing.

Thanks for everything.  You have helped me get back into something I loved so much as a kid.

i voted for the escapists as it's a great story to pick up and read without any backstory to catch up on, and it's just a story about characters that is told by brian k vaughn in a way thats different and cool, as much as i love runaways, i'd recommend the escapists to people over it, and the others on this list while good are the ones that all the attention already, the option to choose from are pretty narrow, watch men will probably win as there's a slant toward it by everyone as the holy grail of comics, but where arethe titles that should be recomended, such as nextwave, phonogram, the nightly news, the losers, faker and pride of baghdad

Understanding Comics is at least as important as Watchmen in that is shows (in a completely different way) the true potential of the medium of comics.  I've re-read Understanding Comics way more than I have Watchmen, and I wish there were more non-fiction comics out there...

I had to vote for The Golden Age.  It was the second Trade I ever bought.

The first was Cable and the New Mutants.  Think what you will.
