RETRO REVIEW: Uncanny X-Men Annual #7 (June 1983)

Or – “I’m Suddenly Possessed By The Realization That I Miss Punk-Rock Storm.”

One Saturday I took a walk to Xavier’s School, I met a girl there, floating up above the pool!
Punk Rock Storm, lightning just struck me! Punk Rock Storm, can we please marry?
With my hair on fire it’s warm!  Just you and me, Punk Rock Storm!

I tapped her on the arm and asked for my answer! She looked at me and said “I married Black Panther!”
Punk Rock Storm, please give me a chance! Punk Rock Storm, in your leather pants,
that to your hips conform! Just you and me, Punk Rock Storm!

Punk Rock Storm, your new hair is cute!
Punk Rock Storm, no more bathing suit!
We’ll have a fight with Swarm!
Just you and me,
We’ll make fun of Emma’s form!
Just you and me,
Your husband we’ll misinform!
Just yooooooou and meeeeeeeeeee, PUNK ROCK STORM!

REVIEW: Uncanny X-Men #8

“Imperius Sex!”

You can call me a comic book newb as I only started reading at the start of The New 52 after taking a series of Stephen’s classes last semester that immersed me into the culture. I wanted to branch out from DC and when I found out that Uncanny X-Men was getting a reboot renumbering I figured it was a snap call since I like starting a collection from #1. Can Uncanny X-Men deliver to a newb, or do I need to empty more of my wallet to follow the story?

Marvel announces yet another number one

DC went full out and announced a slew of number one issues all at once.  Marvel is taking a different approach – quietly announcing new series and new number ones here an there, perhaps hoping no one will notice this is at least the fifth new book announced in the last month.

Uncanny X-Men to end with Schism

Though X-Men: Schism is scheduled to begin in July, Uncanny X-Men will be ending in October with issue #544. This according to The Associated Press, who sat down with writer Kieron Gillen.

“The X-Men has always been a book with ideology and ideas at its heart, and to be fair to them — to best present them — you have to be entirely true,” Gillen said. “And if the story we’re telling demands that you end the ‘Uncanny X-Men,’ you end the ‘Uncanny X-Men.’ No, it’s not taken lightly — but it’s taken if it’s necessary to do it.”

So there you go, long lasting effects of a X-Men event.

So… how long before the All New Uncanny X-Men arrives?
