In case you missed Marvel’s last major event — and by last I mean most recent event, and not final event — Secret Invasion is back in a slew of trade paperbacks so you can finally join in on all the talk around the water cooler about the series that lead to the current state of affairs in the Marvel universe with Norman Osborne in charge.

“We’re very appreciative of the unprecedented support from retailers, fans and the press for Secret Invasion,” said David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice President of Sales & Circulation. “With the recent announcement of Secret Invasion Black Panther and Runaways/Young Avengers making the New York Times Graphic Books Best Sellers List, we thought this would be a good time to remind fans of the affordable packages we have available for them to catch the stories they might have missed, while also alerting new fans of a way to discover what led to Dark Reign.”

Sixteen trades are already available, with fifteen more on the way between now and June. Take the jump for the complete list, so you have all the background you need (hint: the Earth wins).

I Kill Giants Trade Arrives in May

Press Release

01picon.jpg

This May, Image Comics releases Joe Kelly and JM Ken Niimura’s complete I KILL GIANTS trade paperback while declaring everyone on the planet Earth should buy it since it’s so damn good.

“I’m really flattered Image would make that kind of claim, so much so Ken and I are humbled beyond words and hope people like it as much as Image thinks they will,” Kelly said. “Ken certainly did a phenomenal job with the art and I like to think it’s pretty good as a whole. Then again, there’s a lot of people on Earth. Maybe only half the population should buy the collection and recommend it to friends if they think it’ll appeal to them. That’s still a lot of people. At least three billion.”

30 Days of Night: Juarez Trade Arrives

30daysjuarezpicon.jpg

For girls living in Juarez, Mexico, life can be brief, brutal, and tends to end bloody. Girls have gone “missing” in Juarez for as long as anyone can remember, and like the hellish drudgery of the factories most of them work in, it’s become a way of life. And besides, what are a few more dead girls in a place like this?

Saga of the Swamp Thing Collected in Hardcover

swampthingbook1.jpg

Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics, has announced Alan Moore’s Saga of the Swamp Thing will be collected for the first time in hardcover form, and will arrive in stores on February 11, 2009.  This 208 page edition collects issues 20-27 where Alan Moore began as the series writer.

Book 1 begins with the story “The Anatomy Lesson,” where Moore and his collaborators Stephen Bissette and John Totleben, whose imaginative, genre-breaking artwork, set the gothic tone of the journey to come. By building on the character’s foundations in horror, this creative team delivers a haunting origin story that reshapes his mythology with terrifying revelations. When the creature that once believed he was scientist Alec Holland discovers his true nature, he realizes that he is something far less human than he previously believed. And with the resurrected DC villain the Floronic Man attacking the issues of pollution and consumption of natural resources, SWAMP THING’s journey is one of discovery and adventure that will eventually take him across the stars and beyond.

Saga of the Swamp Thing Book 1 will set you back $24.99.

Archie to Collect TMNT Adventure in Trade

tnmt1.jpg

Way back in the day, when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made their debut on the morning cartoons, Archie Comics released a three issue mini-series that adapted the first five episodes of the 1987 television series.  With the turtles celebrating their 25th “Shell-ebration” (not my gag, I promise you), Archie is collecting the series into a trade paperback.

A generation of readers thrilled to the heroic exploits of the Turtles as they set out to rescue April O’Neil from the Foot Clan!  The thrilling story had it all: the origins of the Turtles, Splinter, Bebop and Rocksteady; the first Archie appearances of April O’Neil, Shredder and the evil, disembodied brain Krang; plus Krang’s robot army, the Neutrinos from Dimension X, and the Technodrome!

The 104-page comic arrives May 13, 2009 for $11.95.

Platinum Grit Arrives In March

PlatGrit_TPB1_cover.tiff.jpg

I’ve been a fan of Trudy Cooper and Danny Murphy’s Platinum Grit web comic for a couple of year now, and when I saw Image Comics is collecting the series in a print volume, it’s something I had to put on my pull list.

“PLATINUM GRIT being published by Shadowline is a dream come true for me,” Shadowline Editor Kristen Simon said. “I’ve been a fan of the web comic for many years now and was thrilled when we were able to bring it over to Shadowline’s website as well.  Publisher Jim Valentino enjoyed it so much he agreed we needed to print the collections! Fellow fans of PLATINUM GRIT are going to be very happy with this edition.”

PLATINUM GRIT VOL. 1 collects the first five chapters of the hit web comics series, in which the fearless Nils and the timid-but-still-surprisingly-together Jeremy take on the Zodiac (they win), Jer’s insane Scottish relatives (they sort of win) a 1940s private dick (they draw when poor light stops play) and two sets of alien matchmakers (they… almost).

I’m curious if Trudy and Danny are continuing the adventures of Nils and company, as the web site hasn’t been updated in some time.  If this is the start of more Platinum Grit, I’m all for it.

The first volume arrives March 11, and features a cover price of $14.99.
