Trade Up to Fantastic Four #1

TakeMyTrade_FF01.jpg

Remember that guy that traded a paperclip all the way up to a house?  Marvel looks like it is doing something similar with its Take My Trade campaign to benifit the HERO Initiative.

Check the Press Release:

Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, one of the comic industry’s most prolific personalities, is proud to present TAKE MY TRADE, a groundbreaking quest to trade up to a copy of Fantastic Four #1! Pioneered by Brevoort’s critically-acclaimed Blah Blah Blog at Marvel.Com, this event allows fans to trade their comics with Brevoort so he can find a comic worthy of being traded for an original FF #1, which will then be donated to charity via The HERO Initiative. All comics remaining at the end of this event, which continues throughout 2009, will be auctioned by The HERO Initiative to aid in the welfare of less fortunate comic book creators. Plus, every participant in this event received a Certificate of Meaninglessness, personally signed by Brevoort himself!

Captain Trips Gets Traded

TheStand_CaptainTrips_PremiereHC_LEsm.jpg

TheStand_CaptainTrips_PremiereHC.jpgNo, we are not changing our coverage to football and sports related talk, rather Marvel’s adaptation of the first volume of Stephen King’s The Stand is getting the hard cover treatment this March. Unlike other trades and deluxe editions which filter their way to Amazon, B&N, and other outlets, this hard cover is being released exclusively to direct market retailers.

“Marvel is excited to present this unique opportunity to our partners in the direct market who’ve helped make The Stand such a success,” explained David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice President of Sales. “We appreciate their overwhelming support for The Stand: Captain Trips and want to thank them with the option of either the regular cover or the limited edition gatefold cover.”

The Stand: Captain Trips Premiere Hardcover arrives March 11, 2009 for $24.99.

When four friends decide to rent a schooner for the day, everything is smooth sailing until they encounter a derelict ship adrift in the ocean – a massive trawler that looks as if it had been dragged from the bottom of the sea.  When they spot a frightened little girl waving at them from the bow, they have no choice but to investigate.  As they get closer to the ship, they discover that the girl is not alone, and that a terrifying creature born from environmental abuse is also stalking the ship.

Freshman Year Gets Trade

fygn.png

We usually don’t get too many solicitations for trade paperbacks from Archie Comics, but the company’s Freshman Year story was popular enough to be collected into The High School Chronicles Volume One: Freshman Year.

In the “Freshman Year” saga, originally presented in the pages of ARCHIE #587-591, readers finally learned the back-story behind Riverdale’s fabled cast of characters.  This new classic is now set to join the list of other famous comic book “prequels” as all four stories are collected together in the first edition of “The High School Chronicles!”  This handsome trade paperback collection will make an excellent addition to any Archie fan’s bookshelf.

The trade goes on sale April 29, 2009 for $10.95

Watchmen Double Dips in December

watchmentrade.jpgDC must be tickled pink over the Watchmen Trailer Effect.  Sales for the trade paperback have skyrocketed since July, and the book took a double dip at the top selling graphic novels for December.  Watchmen took the number 1 and number 3 spots on BookScan USA’s graphic novel list, with the paperback taking the top spot, and the newly released hard cover coming in third.

Even though Watchmen is soaring high, Naruto still dominates the list with volumes taking the number 2, 5, 11 spots.

Studio 407 Sneak Peek: Hybrid

01picon.jpg

Studio 407 will release its Hybrid series in trade paperback form on February 25, 2009.  If you didn’t get a chance to read the individual issues, now might be a good time to read the collection before the movie adaptation hits theaters.

“This was a real opportunity to take an old fashioned genre, the classic monster story, and bring it into the 21st century. says Hybrid writer Peter Kwong. “The ‘hybrid” is unlike any creature that you’ve ever seen; yet, like all classical monsters, it’s very much rooted in contemporary fears and anxieties. That always makes it more interesting as a writer, and, I hope, the audience will agree.”

Studio 407 has provided a sneak peek at the first issue, that you can read after the jump.

Whether you’re standing in long lines at a comic convention, driving across country on one of those wonderful family vacations, or jetting around the world closing multi-million dollar deals, you’re probably going to be bored enough to want to read something.  DC has stepped up to the plate by releasing its list of trade paperbacks scheduled for release in May and June of 2009.

This list isn’t final, and is subject to change, but what is being offered, looks pretty good to me.  For sure on my list will the the third Starman Omnibus.

Wanted Movie Edition Trade Arrives

WANTED_Movie_Ed_COV.jpg

I you wandered through your LCS this week, you may have seen Angelina Jolie looking back at you.  That’s because Top Cow has released the Wanted Movie Edition Trade Paperback to capitalize on the upcoming DVD release.

The WANTED MOVIE EDITION not only contains the hit comic story by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, it also features a movie photo cover (see attached), interviews with the director and cast of the film, a character dossier, deleted scenes, a making-of-the-comic featurette and more.

I think some are going to be dissappointed when they purchase the trade and find out Jolie on the cover turns into Halle Berry on the inside.   If you haven’t read Wanted, do yourself a favor and pick it up, it is a great story.  If you’re basing your purchase on the movie, pick up the book as it is a totally different story.
