Stjepan Sejic named regular artist for Witchblade

sejicpicon.jpg

A lot of good work came from Sejic during his Witchblade: First Born run, and Top Cow Productions has announced Stjepan will now be the regular artist for the ongoing Witchblade series beginning with issue #116.

“Historic run, on the rise artist, longest running, and consistent,” said Sejic in a prepared statement, “In my personal dictionary these descriptions all fall under ‘hype’. As a fan, I’ve read my share of hype but as an artist my job is to destroy the skepticism in fans’ minds. I’m committed to doing just that. Ron [Marz] has amazing stories outlined and I’m extremely excited to show fans what I can really do. I’m in this because I love comics and telling stories, and these are going to be some badass stories!”

Witchblade #116 promises to be an ideal jumping on point for new readers. Following the events of First Born, the Witchblade was split in half and is now wielded by long-time bearer Sara Pezzini and neophyte Danielle Baptiste. Both women will have to adapt to the new changes in their lives and this issue will lay seeds for the upcoming landmark issue #125.

The Darkness Ongoing This December

Darkness_1_Keown.jpgTop Cow has announced The Darkness will be a new ongoing series debuting December 12th.

The new ongoing series will be written by Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Deep Sleeper) and penciled by Michael Broussard (Unholy Union). Both Hester and Broussard have stated their commitment to the ongoing series with Broussard recently signing a 3 year exclusive contract with Top Cow. The Darkness #1 finds the title character, Jackie Estacado irrevocably changed by the life changing events of First Born. Estacado has relocated to the Central American country of Sierra Muñoz and has seemingly gained a new understanding and control over his powers. But every tropical paradise has dark secrets underneath the surface…

The first issue will be oversized, and might be a good jumping on point for new readers – although I think picking up a few select trades would get you up to speed as well.

Aphrodite IX Pulled from Pilot Season

AphroditePS_1_picon.jpg

Of all of the Pilot Season titles being released from Top Cow, Aphrodite IX is being pulled by the publisher.

“The decision to cancel Aphrodite IX Pilot Season was a tough one,” explained Matt Hawkins, President of Top Cow, “The issue wasn’t coming together in a way that would work for Pilot Season. We didn’t want to risk delaying the voting process for Pilot Season or releasing a pilot issue we weren’t completely happy with, so the responsible thing to do was to remove it from the promotion. Fans haven’t seen the last of Aphrodite IX though.”

Pilot Season will continue with five titles; Ripclaw, Cyblade, Velocity, The Necromancer, and The Angelus.

I’m happy Top Cow isn’t giving up on Aphrodite IX, and I hope we do get to see the full issue next year.

In the mean time, check out the full color cover (not previously released) to the issue that almost was.
