Matt Hawkins Responds to $4.99 Trade Concerns of Readers

topcowlogo.jpg

Major Spoilers had a few minutes to talk with Matt Hawkins, President and Chief Operating Officer of Top Cow Productions, about the announcement the company was releasing the Darkness: Accursed Volume 1 trade paperback for $4.99.

Major Spoilers: How do you respond to those who say, “I’ve wasted my money when I could have waited for the trade?”

Matt Hawkins:
I say, “No you didn’t.”  You got to read it a lot earlier than everyone else did.  You got something that has some [lasting] value.   For me, when I get a trade, I often find I’m a year behind…”

Matt had a lot more to say about this incentive program, in our interview.  If you want to check out the entire conversation Major Spoilers had with Matt Hawkins, be sure to listen to episode #45 of the Major Spoilers Podcast, hitting the Internets near you, next week.

I know, I’m such a tease, aren’t I?

Darkness: Accursed Get’s Low Intro Price

DKv3000TPBCOVsf2.JPGFor those who have hesitated on picking up the new Darkness series, might have reason to make the jump as Top Cow announced the first trade of Darkness: Accursed will have a $4.99 price point.

“Just like we did when Ron Marz first took over writing Witchblade, we want to reward longtime readers of The Darkness and at the same time entice new readers to come and check out Phil Hester’s storytelling, and you just can’t beat $4.99 for six, full-color quality issues of a comic series,” proclaimed Top Cow VP Marketing and Sales Mel Caylo in a prepared statement.

The Darkness: Accursed Vol. 1 will contain the initial storyline by current series writer Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Firebreather) and artist Michael Broussard (Unholy Union). The six-issue story, entitled “Empire,” kicks off the third and most current volume of The Darkness, which Hester took over writing in December 2007. It is an ideal jumping-on point for readers interested in discovering the modern Darkness series. The collection will also contain a cover gallery featuring pieces by Dale Keown and Stjepan Sejic.

The Darkness: Accursed volume 1 arrives in November.

Jorge Lucas on The Darkness

01picon.jpg

Top Cow Productions has announced Jorge Lucas will take over the art duties for issues #7 and #8 of The Darkness.

“I’m looking forward to working on The Darkness because he is my favorite Top Cow character,” said Lucas, who remembers reading The Darkness issues in Spanish in Argentina, where he still makes his home. “I like the horror genre a lot, and the darker the character, the better. Jackie Estacado is a soul tortured by his demons, a cursed being, and I love this about him.”

Take the jump for the cover and a two page sneak peek of the art changes to come.
