Sam Bayer lobbies for The Boys movie

In an interview with Shock Till You Drop, director Sam Bayer threw his hat into the ring in hopes of being considered to direct a movie adaptation of Dynamite Entertainment’s The Boys.

Yeah, I’m catching my breath but I’ve been offered some stuff. There’s one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that’s bad-ass. I’d like to get it, it’s called The Boys. It’s about a group of mercenaries and they’re job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn’t get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like “The Dark Knight.” There are some great books I don’t think people have tapped into yet.

IF The Boys were made into a film, it would have to have a NC-17 rating, and would have to star Simon Pegg.

Rapid-Fire Reviews: Beyond The Black Hole

Or – “There Are Old Pilots And Bold Pilots, But Few Old, Bold Pilots…”

I saw recently that a clinical study proved that January 25th is the most depressing day of the entire year, scientifically and unequivocally.  While I don’t disagree with that sentiment (especially as it regards the attendance of employees in Midwestern United States call centers) I find it fascinating that somebody actually got paid to try and figure out something that silly and (let’s be honest, here) banal.  Still and all, it’s the kind of story that you read and go, “Yeah, I can see that.”  Thus, to ease your slowly-receding ennui (and Stephen’s not-so-slowly receding hairline) I give you another batch of coverage of comics you might have read, but forgot to laugh at the first time…  Rapid-Fire Style!

New story arc kicks off in The Boys #39

The Boys has been focusing on origin stories as of late, and as soon as the Frenchman and The Female origins are complete, Garth Ennis and John McCrea will kick off a new story arc, called “The Innocents” beginning with issue #40.  Issue #39 will be a prologue issue called “What I Know”.

“Issue 39 begins with everybody happy. Hughie and Annie are blissfully in love, MM’s enjoying some R&R, Frenchie’s even making some progress with the Female’s more extreme psychotic tendencies, and Butcher’s doing what he likes most: digging up all kinds of awful dirt on people. Twenty-two pages later it’s all starting to unravel, and what everyone thought they knew is overturned in the worst possible way,” said Ennis in a prepared statement.

Sounds like things are going to get really bad for The Boys.  If you want a good laugh, you might want to check out The Boys #37, which Matthew reviewed on the most recent Major Spoilers Podcast.

Review: Rapid-Fire Reviews – Stale Chocolate Edition!

Or – “I Decided To Trick Or Treat With My Kid Instead… Sorry.”

The MUSIC MEEEISSSSTERRRR! Sing the song that the world wants to heeeear! Man, I’ve had that stuck in my head for WEEKS, now. This particular RFR was meant to go up last week, just in time for the annual festival of half-price chocolate, but various things conspired to keep me from completing it until today. For those of you who can’t get enough comic review goodness, I’ve got the cowbell to slake your fever, and it’s time to ask ourselves, baby, what’s the word? In the words of the great philosopher Aloysius Bundy: “Let’s ROCK.”
