I often complain about artists “stunt-casting” comic characters (the process of using a clearly identifiable face, as when Mike Deodato insisted on making Norman Osborn look exactly like Tommy Lee Jones for 12 issues), but there’s another kind of stunt-casting that isn’t seen quite so often anymore:  The use of real-world characters alongside our four-colored heroes.  Who teams up with the Man of Steel this issue?  I’ll give you a hint: It involves a War Of The Worlds. No, it’s not Tom Cruise.  Your Major Spoilers (retro) review awaits!

After finally enacting a complex plan of bringing the end of mutant-phobia sentiments in the UK, David Haller’s reward is a difficult visit with his estranged mother. Like most family reunions, the encounter between the two is anything but smooth sailing. What do you say to a mother who abandoned you? Good question. More after the jump!

There are few things everyone can agree on. Welsh corgis are cute, black licorice tastes weird (even if you like it), and the Ninja Turtles are awesome. Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo and Raphael have been kicking robot, ninja, mutant and alien butt for the better part of three decades. This, however, puts a lot of pressure on a Ninja Turtles video game. Especially considering that the TMNT franchise has spawned a dozen games, many of which are very highly regarded.  Does Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows for Xbox Live Arcade stand its ground? Or does it fail to…

During our Dueling Review of Infinity #1, Stephen and I had some issues with the difference between Kirkman and Hickman, but the main gist of it is this:  Thanos is headed for Earth, the Avengers simply are not ready for him, and pretty much everything is going to die screaming in the flames.  So, we got that going for us…  which is nice, y’know.  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

In the summer of 2011, Dark Horse Comics expanded their ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ universe with a spinoff featuring her ex-beau and her erstwhile replacement in adventures of their own.  Problem is, DC’s New 52, Marvel NOW!, and enormous sea-changes in the comics industry since then pushed the adventures of slayer and vamp off the front page, to the point where I dropped the title and forgot about it.  Two years later, things are wrapping up for Angel & Faith, but where will the chips fall?  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

Or – “A Pioneer In More Ways Than One…” It wasn’t all that long ago that I got in the middle one of those silly fanboy arguments that we all have now and again, this one about the first comic book to star an African-American hero.  One friend said ‘Luke Cage – Hero For Hire,’ while another thought that John Stewart as Green Lantern might count, as a third questioned the possible bona fides of The Falcon.  Me, I did what I always do, sat back and waited for them to ask if *I* knew.  Soon enough, they did, allowing…

Ah, the inevitable zero issue where there’s a break from the main story in order to give the origin of the title character.  It’s Bloodshot’s turn this month and we finally get some answers as to who and what he is.  Major Spoilers has your review after the jump.

Horror is really becoming a huge draw in comics once again. I was recently sent a review copy of this book, which is subtitled: “Investigating the dark, forgotten corners of our world, one monster at a time,” so I just had to tell everyone about this great comic!

It does this long-time comics reader’s heart good to see Superman holding down the top position in sales as he has the last two months (and I hope he’ll do it again for August). What better way is there to celebrate the Man of Steel’s 75th birthday?

Ten Years ago we were given a real breath of fresh undead air with the genius, scary and damned hilarious Shaun Of The Dead. Hot Fuzz came next, which was action packed and bloody funny. Now the Cornetto Trilogy closes out with The World’s End, a sci-fi tale of friendship and individuality. But is it funny?

Or – “How To Kill Your Franchise In 5 Years Or Less…” As a 30-year fan of the Legion of Super-Heroes, I was vaguely saddened to hear that the book was being cancelled when the news broke a couple of months ago, but it was a complex and remote sadness.  Given that the New 52 era LSH had never really found its stride, part of me wondered if it wasn’t all for the best, but subsequent issues seemed to get some of their groove back.  What does the future hold for the future?  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!
