Renegade Arts Entertainment
I have a great suggestion for a wonderful holiday gift – Underworld from Lovern Kindzierski and Renegade Arts Entertainment! It’s a fascinating tale of a man who thinks he’s part of the classic Odyssey tale, but is living in modern-day Winnipeg, Canada. He’s on a mission to accomplish several important things, including returning to his family. The writer of the terrific Shame series of books, Mr. Kindzierski discusses his own journey in bringing Underworld to us readers, so you’ll want to hear what he has to say! In order to get your copy of Underworld, you can ask your local
“Investigating the forgotten corners of our world, one monster at a time.” That’s the premise behind Dept. of Monsterology, a comic series that began exploring the unexplained and unusual in its first miniseries in 2013. I loved both the concept and the execution of this book, so I highly recommended it when it first came out. I was thrilled to find out that a second story was in the works, and the first issue of that new story arc is now available digitally at the Renegade Entertainment website. Oh, and if you missed the first miniseries, you can download the collected
During this week’s episode, you’ll enjoy one of my all-time favorite interviews! About two years ago, I talked with legendary comics creator Alan Grant, who worked on Batman during the 1980s and 1990s, and who continues to make great comics! During our fun conversation, we talk about his recent Renegade Arts Entertainment projects: Channel Evil, which was collected into a trade, and The Loxleys and the War of 1812, a historical hardcover comic that looks at this conflict through the eyes of a family impacted by the war. Go to this link to get Channel Evil, and go here to buy The Loxleys
This trade is a great one on several levels, but the thing I love most about it is that I, dare I say it, learned a lot. I always appreciate it when I read a book and come away with better knowledge of another people, nation or country. There’s no reason to be scared – this comic spreads understanding in a non-threatening, even fun, way. I really enjoyed that this was released digitally on July 1, Canada Day! You’ll understand more about this when you read the book!
A great comic often does a lot more than entertain – it educates! This week, I interview Mark Zuehlke, a historian who has scripted The Loxleys and Confederation, a great comic from Renegade Arts Entertainment that discusses how Canada was formed and what influence the United States played in that creation. This book is the sequel to The Loxleys and The War of 1812, another great historical graphic novel that taught me a lot about that war and its aftermath. We follow a family whose existence parallels the formation of Confederation, and provides us with a human perspective on this
You’ll really enjoy my fun interview with comics creator P.J. Holden, one of the folks behind Dept. of Monsterology, a terrific book I’ve reviewed on this site at this link. You can now buy Dept. of Monsterology: Monsterology 101 Volume 1 at Amazon.com P.J. talks about monsters in comics, including zombies and vampires, then discusses what it’s like to create a monster comic. He discusses how Dept. of Monsterology came to be and what we can expect in the future, which means a total of five trade paperbacks! Can’t wait! Be back next week for another great interview with another
“My, I bet you monsters lead interesting lives. I said to my girlfriend just the other day – Gee, I’ll bet monsters are interesting, I said. The places you must go, and the places you must see, my stars! And I’ll bet you meet a lot of interesting people, too. I’m always interested in meeting interesting people!” – my favorite philosopher, Bugs Bunny
Horror is really becoming a huge draw in comics once again. I was recently sent a review copy of this book, which is subtitled: “Investigating the dark, forgotten corners of our world, one monster at a time,” so I just had to tell everyone about this great comic!
