By popular demand, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to expand their beloved VAMPIRELLA line with a new five-part miniseries, entitled VAMPIRELLA: SOUTHERN GOTHIC. A tale of dark magic and mystery set against a Mississippi backdrop, the series features the writing talent of Nate Cosby and illustrations by Jose Luis. The first issue will hit store shelves in August 2013, available in two cover editions: an art edition by Johnny Desjardins, and Subscription-Only photo variant featuring model Kitana Baker.

SOLICITATIONS: Elephantmen approaches 50th issue

ELEPHANTMEN, Richard Starkings’ epic science fiction series exploring the ramifications of genetic experimentation, war, and racism, is reaching a milestone this July: its 50th issue. ELEPHANTMEN debuted in 2006, published by Image Comics, a spin-off of Starkings self-published (and now Image title) HIP FLASK.

CONVENTIONS: June 02 is Kids Day at Wizard World Philly

Move over, mom and dad!  Sunday, June 2, is Kids Day at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, with an array of programming, kid-friendly celebrities, creators and exhibitors designed especially for children, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  From the impossibly cute Kids Costume Contest to the positively “icky” Creepy Crawler Bug Display, children of all ages will enjoy a variety of activities all day long.  Kids 10 and under are free all weekend with a paid adult (two children admitted per paid adult).

SIGNING: Archie announces Jinx signings

Archie Comics is celebrating the release of Jinx: Little Miss Steps with two signings in two countries. The first signing will take place at Star Clipper in Saint Louis, MO with Eisner award winning artist Rick Burchett on Saturday, May 25. One week later, Harvey award winning writer J. Torres will be signing at Little Island Comics in Toronto, ON on Saturday June 1.

CONVENTIONS: IDW Publishing and DC Comics announce joint American Comics panel at MCM London

IDW Publishing and DC Comics will be holding a joint American Comics In The UK panel at MCM London Comic Con this weekend, show organisers have announced.

Featuring Bob Wayne, SVP sales and marketing at DC Comics, and Dirk Wood, IDW’s vice president of marketing, the panel will take place in MCM Theatre B at 16:30 on Saturday 25 May.

TELEVISION: Two-part series finale for Merlin arrives on Friday

Morgana removes her final obstacle to the throne of Camelot – Merlin and his magic – and sets about her ultimate siege of the kingdom in “The Diamond of the Day, Part 1,” which airs Friday, May 24, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.

The opening stanza to the two-part MERLIN series finale strikes some ominous chords.
