Press Release Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIA and VIA.B), will launch an in-house animation division, with its first title slated for release in 2014. In making the announcement, Paramount Chairman & CEO Brad Grey said the initiative was part of the studio’s long-term strategy for growth and that the new division, Paramount Animation, will focus on high quality animation with budgets per picture of up to $100 million.

Love it or hate it, the latest installment of Transformers has already set box office records for 2011. In its first full day of release, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has already brought in $37.315 million in box office sales, beating Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, as the biggest single day grosser for the year. Worldwide, the movie has already amassed a whopping $79.4 million, and considering this is a major holiday weekend for the United States (Independence Day) and Canada (Canada Day), expect the ticket sales to continue to climb.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures has nabbed the rights to The Mighty, a series from DC Comics written by Keith Champagne and Peter Tomasi , with art by Peter Snejberg.
