Recently some figures came to light that showed Kickstarter hit a new fundraising record in 2018, particularly when it came to comics.

Turns out 2019 is a big anniversary year for at least two comics companies—Marvel and IDW!
I’m a big believer in variety in my reading. Yes, I buy a lot of superhero comics, but I’m also fascinated by mysteries, crime stories and other kinds of storytelling. I wish I could tell you what I’m going to like, but I often don’t know until I see it. One of my favorite comics companies is AfterShock, and they’ve declared 2019 “The Year of Reading Dangerously.”
At midnight tonight, we leave 2018 behind and stand at the precipice of a new year, 2019. Psychics make a living out of predicting the future, but while I’m no psychic, I have some thoughts on what we just might see in the coming months.
I wrote a similar column about three years back, but I thought it was worth an update as we near the end of 2018… sort of a “state of the industry” from my perspective before we move into a new year. First, of course, I need to give my yearly advice to people buying gifts for comics fans, especially late ones (hey, guys, it IS Christmas Eve)! Do NOT try to buy an item you THINK they might want! Chances are, they either have it or don’t want it if they haven’t already bought it. Instead, locate their local comics…
As reported by MajorSpoilers.com Head Honcho Stephen Schleicher, Marvel had recently been building up interest in what appeared to be the destruction of their very own universe. Teaser images aplenty flooded the Internet, then the House of Ideas released exactly what was going on… a miniseries called Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History.
Stephen’s response was perfect: “Well… that was… anticlimactic.”
There’s a show called Deadtown being developed by Amazon Studios featuring deceased women that sounds tremendously engaging, and it should be turned into a comic if that isn’t underway already!
Attorney Matt Murdock has been one of the key Marvel players for decades now, and his alter ego Daredevil has really attracted a lot of attention both in the comics and on Netflix.
Sadly, that era may be coming to a close.
With the upcoming return of Uncanny X-Men to their roster, the House of Ideas is revisiting the best-loved days of the mutants as part of their Marvel Milestones series.
I’ve got mixed feelings about this.
‘Tis the season to say what we’re thankful for, so I thought this time I’d once again accentuate the positive and focus on those things in the comics industry I’m grateful for.
I was intrigued recently when I read a news release posted here at MajorSpoilers about Dark Horse partnering with Vanguard Visionary Associates. Now, it’s not unusual for American companies to accept funding from overseas companies—Valiant Entertainment has done that, for example.
It does show that the industry is always looking for more money so they can offset those not-so-great comics while they work on selling more successful ones!
I guess you’ve truly arrived when you get your very own day! Well, this Saturday, November 10th, has been proclaimed as Hawkman Day! It will be the Winged Avenger’s 79th birthday!
Saturday was what some folks call “Free Comic Book Day Lite,” otherwise known as Halloween ComicFest.
Looks like this second FCBD each year is picking up steam, which makes me as a fan of the comics industry very happy!
Well, as reported here at MajorSpoilers, a preview of the current James Bond comics from Dynamite Entertainment will be in the October 30 issue of Playboy. While that magazine is not my cup of tea, hey, if it draws more people to the industry, I’m all for it!
