To help kick off the DVD release of the Transformers, Paramount is rolling out the life sized model of Bumblebee and erecting him in the courtyard of the West Hollywood Gateway shopping center at the corner of La Brea and Santa Monica Blvd. Stop by and get your picture taken, or just marvel at what someone can do with a bunch of car parts, a forklift, a 10-ton crane and lots of money. Bumblebee will be on location from today (October 16) until Sunday October 21st. via Superhero Hype

Remember when the viral marketing website for The Dark Knight had a hidden message that said, “See you in December”? Many suspected (myself included) that would be when the first major trailer for the movie would drop, but according to the Omelete, IMAX movies goes may be getting a seven minute preview in front of Will Smith’s I Am Legend. Very cool news if true, very bad news for those of us without an IMAX theater close by. via Omelete

According to the Hollywood Reporter, director George Miller spent most of the weekend in casting sessions for the Justice League of America movie. Who showed up? On the roll call are Adam Brody (Fox’s “The O.C.”), Joseph Cross (“Running With Scissors”), D.J. Cotrona (“Windfall”), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Grindhouse”), Michael Angarano (“Sky High”), Teresa Palmer (“Wolf Creek”), Max Thieriot (“Jumper”) and rapper Common. The cast of NBC’s “Friday Night Lights” is well-represented as well, with Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter also among those testing for parts. No costumes are involved in the tests, which are being taped as actors…

Take a look at one of the pieces you’ll be seeing in Dr. Manhattan’s home in the upcoming Watchmen movie. Warner Bros. has leased the pieces “Hemisphere” by Arlie Regier, “Sphere” by his son Dave Regier, and “Hyperbolic Hexagon II” and “Atomic Flower,” both by Brent Collins. The artwork is being shipped to Vancouver, British Columbia, where filming is under way. Paul Dorrell, who represents the artists, said the filmmakers apparently saw pictures of the sculptures on the Internet and thought they would be ideal in “Watchmen.” I did a quick search for the other pieces on the Interwebs and…

Warner Bros. has hired Jerry O’Flaherty to direct the CG-animated Thundercats film based on the ’80s cartoon, comicbooks and toy line. The project marks the first feature directing gig for O’Flaherty, who served as an art director on such bestselling games as “Gears of War” and “Unreal Tournament 3” for Epic Games and the “Command and Conquer” series from Westwood Studios. The director will now work with scriptwriter Paul Sopocy to get a script together. via Variety

I would think we’ve all had enough Terminator films, comics, and television shows, but apparently Warner Bros. thinks otherwise, as they prepare to relaunch the Terminator franchise. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is an attempt to “reinvent the cyborg saga” that will be told over three films being written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. The producers said that the new film will carry the size and scale of “Terminator 3,” and will have an event-sized budget. It will likely be less than the $200 million pricetag of “Terminator 3,” which was saddled with extravagant costs that included above the…

The Last Christmas by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan has been optioned by Hollywood Gang Production. The novel revolves around Santa Claus, who turns his back on Christmas and goes into seclusion after nuclear war has destroyed the world. When the North Pole gets attacked, Santa must battle zombies and renegades to save the remaining survivors, and ultimately, the holiday. This book was a big hit last year in the bookstores, and if the movie is done correctly, could be a big hit for an upcoming holiday season as well. No word on release date, but Craig J. Flores will…

If this trailer doesn’t make you want to see this film, then perhaps it will get you to at least dress up in a costume and enter a certain contest on this site (nudge, nudge, wink, wink). Seriously, I met these guys at San Diego a couple of years ago, and as weird as they may be, I still have to give them credit for trying their damnedest to make something of their lives.

Well there is still one good thing that comes from covering comic based movies on this site… That, and the occasional nipple slip.

Variety is reporting two very attractive actresses – Paz Vega (top) and Jamie King (bottom) – have joined the cast of The Spirit. Vega will play the knife-wielding Plaster of Paris, and King will portray Lorelei, a phantom siren. I always thought Will Eisner’s women dripped of sex in the pages of the comics, and it looks like Miller is surrounding himself with real life beauties for the movie. via Variety

Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are reported to be the writing team for Transformers 2: Electric Boogaloo.  Returning to the flick are, as expected, Michael Bay, Shia LaBeouf, producers Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and Don Murphy, as well as executive producer Steven spielberg. The teaming of A-listers to write such a huge project might be an industry first and could have been necessary because Kurtzman and Orci — who wrote the $315 million-grossing first “Transformers” movie — also are busy writing J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” movie for Paramount and producing “Eagle Eye” for DreamWorks. So how much…

Nope, it’s not that Rodriquez, but rather Eduardo Rodriquez that has signed on to direct the zombie film Fragile. Based on the graphic novel by Stephano Raffaele, story kicks off after an airborne virus has reduced much of the Earth’s population to feral zombies. A recently undead soldier then teams with a female zombie and a human teenager, racing against time to find a cure before being hunted down by the soldier’s former military unit. According to Rodriguez, the film isn’t set in a world where zombies are monsters. Okay, now that sounds totally strange.  I can see the dialogue…

Things aren’t looking too good for the fourth Indiana Jones film. First it was the “surprise” announcement of the movie’s title on the MTV Video Awards, then an extra on the set breached his confidentiality agreement by blabbing his mouth to his hometown paper. The latest hit to the production is the apparent theft of computers, photographs, and propriety information from the production offices. A spokesman for director Steven Spielberg confirmed the theft but could not comment on when or where the alleged crime occurred because “a law enforcement investigation is ongoing.” Not that this is anything to worry about…
