The headline is a bit misleading. What it really should say is Sony buys the rights to distribute the next Terminator movie, staring Batman’s Christian Bale, internationally. McG will helm the film, the first in a new “Terminator” trilogy that stars Christian Bale as John Connor. The project also reunites John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who partnered to pen “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” as well as Moritz Borman, a producer on the 2003 film. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is scheduled to be in theaters in the first half of 2009. via Hollywood Reporter

Variety is reporting this morning that Columbia Pictures has obtained the rights to Garth Ennis’ The Boys. Created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the contemporary-set comicbook series follows a CIA squad, known informally as “the boys,” whose job is to keep watch on the proliferation of superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or eliminate them. I say this is good news for Dynamite Entertainment, but got to be a big sore spot for DC who tried to kill the title due to its graphic nature and content. via Variety

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Leonardo DiCaprio and Warner Bros. are teaming up to bring Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira to the screen as a live action adaptation. No word if DiCaprio will be screaming Kanada! or not, but as one would expect with the translation, things are going to be changed, for what I fear will be the worst. The new story moves the action to “New Manhattan,” a city rebuilt by Japanese money. Yikes! There’s a red flag right there. On the plus side, the film will mark the directorial debut of Ruairi Robinson, who has been hired to direct…

Now that principle photography for Watchmen has wrapped, Zack Snyder updated his blog to thank everyone involved, including the legion of Watchmen fans who have supported everything he has been doing. While I’m in the process of thanking people, I figure it’s a good time to say thanks to the Watchmen fans for all of their continued support. Since the crew got wrap gifts, I figured you deserved a little something as well. So, to bring a little closure to the previous “Storyboard” blog, I’ve included a frame from the film that shows what it looks like when it all…

Yes, I will be seeing this. Regardless of what the mass audience thinks, I didn’t hate everything that happened in the first three movies (except for young Anakin, Jar-Jar Binks, the pod race – well pretty much everything except the fight scenes in the first movie), and I did get a kick out of the Clone Wars animated series. The trailer looks hot, let’s hope Lucas doesn’t screw this one up.

According to Ain’t It Cool News, Deadpool will be one of the central figures for the Marvel Studios Wolverine movie, and Ryan Reynolds will be playing him. This one’s supposed to be a secret, but cat’s out of the bag now, Marvel. And I have to say… I think it sounds like fun. I know this has been a character you guys have been developing for years now (hell, I think I pitched a DEADPOOL film back in 2001), and Reynolds is absolutely the right guy for the job. Other rumors floating around hint that many Marvel villains will be…

Even though Fox is trying to stop Warner Bros. from completing the film, Executive Producer Herb Gains has a report on the final days of shooting. As we approach the last days of shooting Watchmen — yes, the end is nigh — it’s time to reflect on the whole Watchmen experience. I think back to January 2007 when I first met Zack and he walked me through his drawings for the title sequence. I remember my initial reaction was, How can we shoot all of it? Why do we have to shoot all that? And if we do, how do…

For those of you who already asked Santa for tickets to the new Star Trek that was scheduled to open December 25, 2008, you’re going to be pretty disappointed when your stocking comes up empty Christmas morning. Variety is reporting the J.J. Abrams’ film has been pushed back to May 2009, which might make the studio more money as a summer run could draw a larger audience than the holiday. Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio’s release calendar, as well as to DreamWorks’ release sked. Like Par, many of the majors are likely to revisit their…
