This is probably the best news I’ve heard all day. At the Doc Savage panel, Michael Uslan, the fellow producing the Captain Marvel film, said there was a new Doc Savage film in the works.

Even though it was only announced a few weeks ago, the first Red Sonja teaser poster was released at San Diego Comic Con. Originally scheduled for 2010, it looks like we might see the movie a year earlier than expected. I’m still not convinced Rose is the best She Devil with a Sword, but if she can bring life to the Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith creation, and do it right, then I’ll see it. via Newsarama
Cartoon Network has announced it has acquired the rights to take three comic titles “Firebreather”, “The Vanishers”, and “Mice Templar” and turn them into feature length movies. Firebreather and Mice Templar are going to get the animation treatment, while The Vanishers will be turned into a live-action film.

While I’m sure there are a number of crackpots out there that already think the Angel of Death is on the web, the Ed Brubaker version is coming to the web as an original live-action series in 2009, that you’ll be able to see on Sony Picture Entertainment’s Crackle website. It was hinted heavily that the Watchmen Owlship would be on display at the San Diego Comic Con, and now it is official. Mike” SDComics” Walker slipped into the show early, and while walking around, snapped a few pictures of the Owlship. The Hollywood Reporter has Wesley Strick signed on to write the update to the Freddy Kruger franchise. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. The plan is to have a dark tone. The company hopes to have the movie ready for the 25th anniversary of the original. Strick has previously penned Arachnophobia and Cape Fear. via THR
Radical Publishing has been getting a lot of play this week; the small publisher has announced its five-issue Hercules: Thracian Wars series is being turned into a feature film for Universal Pictures. Today it was announced, Hancock’s Peter Berg will produce and direct the adaptation with Ryan Condal writing. This announcement is really interesting as there are already two other movie studios producing Clash of the Titans-esqe movies set to debut within months of each other. With the addition of Hercules, we could be seeing a release slate similar to the Alexander/Troy movie battle a few years ago. via Variety
Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the upcoming Capeshooters comic book by Rob Liefeld. In “Capeshooters,” two slackers become paparazzi who specialize in shooting covert videos of superheroes find themselves on the run after they stumble onto evidence that a revered superhero is actually a villain. Seems like an interesting take, although it does seem like that premise has been done before. Bryan Singer’s Bad Hat Harry Productions will produce the adaptation, however while this looks like a films rights deal, BHH produces a lot of television series, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this landed on the WB…
