You know you are a superstar comic book person when you get pro representation from a big Hollywood agency.  Or so says The Hollywood Reporter that reports Neal Adams and his Continuity Studios have signed with ICM. The agency will work to take Adams’ creations across all forms of media as well as help him make the transition to feature film writing and directing. In that latter fashion, Adams would follow artists-turned-helmers such as John Cassaday, who directed an episode of Fox TV series “Dollhouse,” and Frank Miller, who helmed “Sin City” and “The Spirit.” So what will Adams and…

Pop quiz: What do Malcolm McDowell, Naomi Watts, and rapper Ice-T have in common? If you said nothing, I’m sorry – no points for you. If you answered “They’re all bipedal mammals who breathe air and drive fancy cars,” close but no cigar smart-alec. But for those of you who know obscure movies (or if you read the title of the review already) you’d know the answer is Tank Girl, a precursor to the Comic Book-to-Film craze that’s so popular these days. Does it stand the test of time? Let’s find out.

When I watch this trailer for the upcoming Gamer trailer, a few things come to mind; 1) It looks really cool, 2) it reminds me a lot of Running Man, and 3) it reminds me a lot of Avalon.  Then again, Running Man is a movie way out of date, and I doubt many ‘merican audiences have seen the foreign film, so this movie may go over great – just like Death Race did when it got remade.

Some of you may be too young to remember the great James Stewart Harvey adaptation from 1950.  If you haven’t seen it, don’t rush to put it on your Netflix list just yet, as Steven Spielberg has announced his next project will be a new take on the classic play by Mary Chase. Who will play Elwood P. Dowd?  Some are thinking Tom Hanks would be perfect for the part, although Jim Carey might make a better man on the verge who sees invisible six-foot rabbits.  While big name stars will all probably jump at the chance to play the…

20th Century Fox has Ridley Scott back for a fifth Alien movie that is not a remake of the first or a sequel to the last, but a prequel to the entire Alien franchise. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them. Jon Spaihts will write the script, with Ridley Scott tapped to direct the feature. via Variety

What’s Steven Spielberg gonna do when Tintin wraps? If you read the title to this story, then you already know, but for the rest of you, let’s spell it out. Spielberg is in talk to produce and possibly direct Matt Helm for Paramount. “Matt Helm” is based on a series of 27 novels written by Donald Hamilton about a government agent whose mission is to take down enemy agents. While the novels were set in the post-WWII Cold War era, the current script is set in the present. While a series of tongue-in-cheek films were made with Dean Martin playing…

The protector of the trees is being turned into a 3D film directed by Chris Renaud, Cinco Paul, and Ken Daurio. Paul and Daurio are writing the adaptation of the Dr. Seuss The Lorax book.  The tree hugging green themed book has seen its share of controversy since it was originally published in 1971, when the logging industry claimed it was an anti-logging book.  It’s one of my favorite Seuss books, and I hope Paul and Daurio can deliver a script that stays true to the story. The film is expected to hit theaters on March 2, 2012. via Variety

I am really surprised by the news that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince got trounced in its second week by G-Force the family centric CGI hamster action flick.  Potter dropped a surprising 61-percent from it’s opening weekend, bringing in $30 million over the Friday and Saturday time-period.  While I would love to have the $30 million in my pocket, it’s more impressive that Potter brought in $221 million over the past two weeks. Disney’s G-Force opened with $32 million, so my guess is, if everyone hadn’t been at Comic-Con this past weekend, Potter would have held the top spot.…
