One would think the Robin Williams’ Popeye movie would have given H’wood plenty of reason to not do another Popeye movie. Depending on your point of view, it could either be the greatest Popeye movie ever made, or the worst. Former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad thinks the world is ready for another Popeye film, as he’s acquired the screen rights to the E.C. Segar creation.  Arad’s version won’t feature humans with deformed bodies, but rather will be a CGI animated film featuring the sailor, his girl Olive, Bluto (or Brutus), and the rest of the Popeye cast.  Hopefully it…

Yogi Bear is the latest in an seemingly endless stream of movies that will mesh live action with CGI characters ala Scooby-Doo.  Eric Brevig is directing the script written by Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia based on the Hanna-Barbera series from the 1960’s.   As you might expect Yogi and side-kick Boo Boo will menace Jellystone Park and Ranger Smith in the search for picnic baskets.  Expect a bunch of silliness when the movie hits December 17, 2010.

Here’s some gravy to go along with the heaping helping of Ghost Rider 2 news we presented earlier – Marvel is developing a new Daredevil movie.  Fortunately, instead of a sequel, this will be a reboot.  Empire Online has no other information other than the fact that Ben Affleck won’t be involved in the project. It’s odd that Marvel is going for a reboot of the Daredevil film when the director’s cut of the film was much better than the theatrical release.  It’s certainly much better than the Ghost Rider film which Columbia seems to want to force down viewer’s…

Some of you may remember the brouhaha surrounding David Goyer’s Supermax film project that was supposed to feature Oliver Queen locked away in a maximum security prison surrounded by the DC villains that he put there.  The latest description of the film doesn’t quite sound like Goyer’s original premise. The story takes place in a Maximum Security Prison for the Super-Natural as a skilled guard must join forces with a lethal inmate after a riot ensues in order to fight his way through various monsters and mad-men in order to survive. Doesn’t sound like an Ollie Queen movie to me.…

While the debate rages among fans over who might be the best live-action actor to play Batman, there is no such controversy when it comes to the voice of The Dark Knight – Kevin Conroy stands unchallenged for that title. As the voice behind the landmark series Batman: The Animated Series, Conroy set a standard that has cast a wide shadow over any other actor attempting to fill the role for nearly two decades. Conroy once again dons the animated cowl for the September 29 Warner Home Video release of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. In Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, United States President…

It’s bad enough H’wood is actually making View-Master the movie, now Mattel’s most famous toy, Barbie is getting a feature, too.  Universal Pictures won the rights to the live action treatment, with Laurence Mark, of Jerry Maguire fame, producing the flick. Meanwhile, on Eternia… He-Man got some sad news a couple of weeks ago, when Warner Bros. and Mattel parted ways, but the big galoot has stumbled his way into a new home at Columbia.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on which side of the paycheck your are sitting on, all of the previously prepared content has been scrapped.  This means…

Here’s a jaw dropping moment for you – Columbia Pictures is actually revving up production on a second Ghost Rider film.  David Goyer is in talks to write the script, with the expectation that Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze. The “Ghost Rider” push comes amid a flurry of activity with Marvel characters at Sony, Fox, Universal and Paramount. The movement is necessary for those studios to retain rights to their respective Marvel superheroes. With this revelation, it makes perfect sense for Columbia to jump on a sequel in order to keep Marvel (and thus Disney) from…
