Marvel sent over a sneak peek of The Art of Mike Deodato hardcover that arrives in stores in July. “Since I was a kid, I’d loved art books collecting my favorite artists. More recently, I’ve been thrilled to see works of comic book artists taken more seriously,” said Deodato. “To be featured among talents such as Joe Quesada and Marko Djurdjevic in a book like this makes me awfully happy. My dad, who bought me all my early Frazetta hardcovers, was beaming with pride when I told him Marvel was doing one about me. I feel honored.”

After Matthew’s review of Thunderbolts #113 yesterday, I figured you might be interested in seeing one of the inked pages of Thunderbolts #114 by Mike Deodato Jr. It looks pretty sweet, what with Venom getting his ass handed to him in the first panel.
If you have ever wanted to know what an artist goes through when creating a cover image? Mike Deodato Jr. shared several steps his covers go through on the way to completion. In this installment we have a thumbnail, black and white inks for the cover, and the final cover itself. I tried to experiment a looser way of inking it, using markers instead of brushes and pens in order to get the feeling of a penciled cover, you know, the energy and the movement that generally gets lost during the process of inking it. I think I was successful.
