SDCC’09: Mattel announces schedule

Mattel has two panels at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, and are offering up a bunch of exclusives to boot.  If you can’t go to the sold out show to pick up these exclusives, rest assured you can find them on eBay for a very jacked up price after the show.

New Mattel action figures unveiled

Mattel dropped off a couple of new action figure images featuring a Blue Wildcat variant, the packaging for the upcoming JLU SDCC Green Lantern exclusives, and the packaging for the Anti-Monitor that the rest of us who aren’t going to get the giant figure can expect to see in stores.

JLU LOSH 4PK MAY 15

No, that’s not some eye chart test, but rather a reminder that the Justice League Unlimited Legion of Super-Heroes 4-pack will be on sale May 15, 2009 up on the Matty Collector website.  Interestingly, my summer officially starts on May 15, which means I’ll be getting my summer started right with these figures.

Mer-Man Returns on April 29th

MerManModernfullbody.jpg

Mattel has announced the sold out Mer-Man figures, part of the new Masters of the Universe collection, will be back in stock on April 29th, beginning at 12:00 PM Eastern.  The first run of the figures sold out, so fans who are building up their new action figure collection will want to cue up early.

If this second shipment also sells out fast, we will look at increasing orders again until we can get the numbers just right for MOTU figures. It is a learning process, and we appreciate fan’s understanding as we move forward with each sale getting closer to perfection.

During the first offering, there was a problem with the online shopping cart system, which caused international customers to be locked out of the purchasing process. Mattel assures that the problems have been fixed, and there should be few problems.

MOTU Mer-Man Sells Out, International Buyers Locked Out

merman.jpg

The Masters of the Universe re-mastered collection of figures from Mattel have been selling really well since being introduced by the toy company.  Several of those figures have been limited edition figures sold exclusively through Mattel’s MattyCollector.com website (that is until eBay sellers get on the bandwagon).

April 15th saw the release of Mer-Man, and even though Mattel has sold numerous figures through the website, the online shopping cart ended up being fraught with trouble causing many carts to remain empty, and before long international buyers couldn’t get their hands on the MOTU fish man.

The good news is Mattel is addressing the issue, and the better news is there is another chance to get the figures sometime at the end of April.

SDCC’09: Mattel Toy Exclusives

n57309659843_1502950_6983065.jpg

Hot dang!  Saw these today over at the Matty Collector FaceBook page, and I’m burning with jealousy over the exclusive figures Mattel will feature at San Diego Comic Con 2009.  Granted, today is April 1, 2009, but we’ve seen some of these figures already appear during the New York Comic Con, so it’s a safe bet at least most of these figures are legit.

Mattel’s Major Matt Mason to the Big Screen

matt_mason.jpg

Universal pictures has picked up the rights to develop a movie based on Mattel’s action figure, Major Matt Mason.  While another toy movie may not sound like a big deal, with Tom Hanks starring in the movie, it will probably get a lot more attention than the Stretch Armstrong movie.

The toy line originated in 1966; Mason led an astronaut team that worked on the moon and lived in a space station. The toy was a hit in the buildup to the first manned moon mission. Mattel retired the line in the 1970s.

Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce with Graham Yost writing the script.

I know more than a few Major Spoilerites will be heading over to MattyCollector.com to order the Legion of Super-Heroes figures done in the Justice League Unlimited style.  The 4-pack goes on sale on May 15, and while no pre-order or pricing information has been posted, the Justice League Unlimited Gotham City Criminals Action Figure 4-Pack sold for $30.00.

NYCC’09: Gallery of Mattel Goodness

01picon.jpg

Oh, Baby!  Now this is the stuff I want to see when I go to a comic book convention – all the new action figures coming down the pipe.  Mattel always has a good booth showcasing its stuff, and if these images are an indication of what is to come, my wallet is going to by mighty thin by year’s end.

Who You Gonna Call for Ghostbuster Action Figures?

staypuft.jpg

The good news is, those 6-inch figures are being done by the same group that is doing the DC Universe Classic line, which means high quality sculpts with multiple points of articulation.  Bonus ghost figures are nice, but I really want  the first wave to be a build-a-figure Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

Press Release follows

Culver City, Calif. – February 4, 2009 - Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Mattel, Inc. announced today the development of a new collectible line of toys based on the world’s favorite poltergeist fighting team, the Ghostbusters, including an extensive cast of ghosts and ghostbusters – celebrating the 25th anniversary of the frightfully funny classic film “Ghostbusters.”

SDCC’09: Yeah, About Those Anti-Monitor Points You’ve Been Collecting…

matty.jpgSonofagun!  For the last year, I’ve been faithfully saving my Anti-Monitor points from Mattel’s Infinite Heroes line.  I was hoping it would lead up to a major reveal where toy fans could mail away for a humongous Anti-Monitor, or at least some special figure not found anywhere else.

The good news is, there is a point to the point collecting, the bad thing is you HAVE to be at the San Diego Comic Con to cash them in.

You can look forward to new reveals for DCUC, Infinite Heroes, JLU as well as Movie Masters and Batman Brave and the Bold at our DC Panel. We will also announce what will be happening with the Infinite Heroes AntiMonitor points you have all been collecting all year at the DC panel. The points can be redeemed this summer, only at San Diego Comic Con! (and not to worry, fans without the points will have an oppetunity to get a similar item at a minimum cost if you have not been collecting points all year). But the more points you have, the more reward you will get!

Damnit!  Guess eBay will once again be seeing major transactions following SDCC.  This is terrible news.

In the meantime, take the jump to see some of the figures from upcoming waves of the Infinite Heroes line (’bout time we got a Pre-Crisis Supergirl).
