With the holidays upon us, it’s time to get into the spirit with Munchkin Nightmare Before Christmas in this episode of Munchkin Land!
As the release date for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” grows nearer, it’s becoming clear that the location of Luke Skywalker is going to be one of the plot-points of the new film. Is he lost? Gone to the Dark Side? Subletting Yoda’s tiny shack thanks to high galactic real estate prices? Most of us will be able to find out in a week or so, but right now, I’m thinking about all the cool unseen possibilities. Is Luke selling used ships on Tattooine? Hanging out with Boba Fett, making amends for that whole Sarlacc incident? With the full power…
Of all the bits and pieces of the ‘Batman v Superman’ trailer, I’m finding the reactions to Wonder Woman’s brief appearance to be the most interesting. With DC finally willing to take the plunge on a solo female hero feature film, this focus on her lead-in appearance seems to bode well, especially the response to her iconic costume. Of course, that selfsame costume is likely a large portion of why live-action Wonder Woman takes are so rare, with its strange balance of armor-to-40s-bathing-suit being very difficult to pull off. Add to that the dozens of subtle (and not so subtle,…
I have a great suggestion for a wonderful holiday gift – Underworld from Lovern Kindzierski and Renegade Arts Entertainment! It’s a fascinating tale of a man who thinks he’s part of the classic Odyssey tale, but is living in modern-day Winnipeg, Canada. He’s on a mission to accomplish several important things, including returning to his family. The writer of the terrific Shame series of books, Mr. Kindzierski discusses his own journey in bringing Underworld to us readers, so you’ll want to hear what he has to say! In order to get your copy of Underworld, you can ask your local…
As a Star Trek fan from way back, I have Strong Ideas about what Starfleet Officers I would want in my personal crew. I totally need Lieutenant Uhura and the engineering brilliance of Geordi LaForge (Scotty’s penchant for drink and getting accused of murder is kind of problematic) but it’s a hard call on other stations. Worf? Spock? Tuvok? Churlimince? (One of those may not be Star Trek crew members, now that I think of it.) Given my deep love of DS9 and the Original Series, 70% of Next Generation, a couple of the movies and that one time where…

As is apparently tradition for me, my December has started off relatively poorly, with illnesses, absences, infirmities and such vying for attention, as well as the general dyspepsia that accompanies my upcoming birthday. The latest thunderbolt moment for me was finding that the super-talented and incredibly busy Aisha Tyler and I are practically the same age, making me wonder if I could have been the multi-media celebrity/actor/pundit and also have been smokin’ hot, if I somehow chose a different door when a butterfly flapped its wings back in the fourth grade. (If only I’d taken that skateboard proficiency!) Fortunately for…
Zach is on his own this week and it has never been more obvious as he gets fired up about The Martian being considered a comedy for the Golden Globes and more!
When does a utopia become a dystopia? Stephen and Matthew take a look at Symmetry #1 by Matt Hawkins and Raffaele Ienco in this week’s Dueling Review.
Not by coincidence are the two big upcoming superhero movies about combat between different superheroes. Aside from the general devaluation of super-villains (only the biggest and baddest count, and they’re often a bit TOO bad), the heroes are complex enough to allow for a more nuanced disagreement before busting each other in the face with armored fists and alien strength. Indeed, this week, I realized that I’d really love to see ‘Blankman v Meteor Man’ (and bear in mind, Robert Townsend and Damon Wayans aren’t more than a couple of years older than Robert Downey Jr), leading us to today’s…
