MOVIE: The Lone Ranger given a go ahead

When push comes to shove, having someone like Johnny Depp, who brings in billions of dollars in box office money, tends to get the studios to change their minds in regards dropping a proposed movie or giving it the go ahead.  Case in point – The Lone Ranger.  While it will be very strange to see Depp playing Tonto, Disney has announced it is going ahead with plans to produce the Lone Ranger movie.

MOVIE: Lone Ranger film encounters funding woes

Looks like the Armie Hammer/Johnny Depp Lone Ranger movie got shut down this past week because of production cost. It isn’t that Disney’s pockets aren’t deep enough, according to Deadline, it appears that the studios are tired of spending upwards of $300 million plus for every movie, and The Lone Ranger’s estimated $275 million budget may just be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

If production costs really are a thing studios are having a gripe over, expect to see other movies suddenly finding their budgets cut in order to meet studio expectations.

MOVIE: Yoakam in talks for Lone Ranger role

Variety is reporting that singer/actor Dwight Yoakam is in talks to join the Lone Ranger cast.  If negotiations are successful, Yoakam will play Butch Cavendish, the leader of the gang that causes the Ranger all sorts of problems.

Yoakam will join Armie Hammer who will play the masked avenger and Johnny Depp who has secured the role of Tonto.

MOVIE: Love interest found for Lone Ranger?

We already know Johnny Depp will play Tonto and Armie Hammer will play the Lone Ranger, but what about the love interest?  Deadline is reporting that Ruth Wilson is in talks to play the female lead/love interest in the Gore Verbinski directed Lone Ranger movie.

I don’t know anything about Ruth Wilson, but dress her up in a costume of the period and she’ll certainly look good.  Since this is the Lone Ranger, I wonder if she’ll be written as the romantic lead for Hammer, or if the production will follow the recently concluded Lone Ranger series from Dynamite Entertainment, where Tonto rides off into the sunset with the Ranger’s sister-in-law?
