While a lot of attention is paid to the direct market single issue sales, the graphic novel sales in the direct and mass market rarely gets reported. Papercutz has announced that the Ninjago graphic novel, based on the Ninjago LEGO toy line, is the company’s first title to break 170,000 in pre-orders.

Though I’m patiently waiting for LEGO to send over some high-res images of their upcoming LEGO SUPER HERO line, The Source, actually posted a pic that not only includes Batman (whom we’ve seen before in LEGO form), but also Superman and Green Lantern – SWEET! I’m still surprised by the DC/Marvel/LEGO news, and while we don’t have images of the minifigure line yet, LEGO did send us a teaser video for the line.
WOW! I was pretty excited about the announcement that LEGO has teamed with Warner Bros., but now we learn that the toy manufacturer has also teamed with Marvel Entertainment. THIS IS A REALLY BIG DEAL! If everything comes together in this LEGO SUPER HERO line, expect to see a lot of epic battles between Spider-Man and Batman!
While I liked what LEGO did with the Batman sets from a few years ago, I was always hoping for more from the toy company. Looks like that wish is coming true as DC and LEGO have expanded their relationships allowing LEGO to access the complete library of comic book characters and stories to launch DCU Super Heroes. In April 2011, LegoLand in Southern California opens Star Wars MiniLand that includes 2,000 models from the franchise, all built in miniature – with LEGO! Check that out – 1.5 million LEGO bricks used to build all the models. The execution arena contains 30,000 bricks, and took five weeks to build. Some people really do have the best jobs in the world!
