RETRO REVIEW: Power Man & Iron Fist #79 (March 1982)

Or – “Do Ya S’pose This Would Be The Twelfth Or Thirteenth?”

Before the fez, before the brainy specs, before the leather jacket and jumper, there was a time when the general public (i.e., the non-nerds in the world) knew nothing of a certain Gallifreyan and his adventure in time, space and dimension.  Luckily for us, the ladies and gentlemen who worked at Marvel Comics were among the nerds, and delivered unto us the most unlikely crossover moment of all…

Shang-Chi battles his way through Spider-Island

Not everyone will be affected/infected by the Spider-Island event, which means there is a lot of potential for mini-series and tie-in issues for the upcoming Marvel Fall event.  Shang-Chi and Iron Fist will need to cut their way through the mayhem in Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1.

“I’ve been a fan of Shang-Chi for years, so writing Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu is great fun, especially as Shang himself gets spider-powers,” said writer Anthony Johnston. “Then just throw in a little mystery, some gothic horror, a guest appearance by Iron Fist… and more Kung Fu per page than any other Spider-Island book, guaranteed!”

Spider-Island: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #1 has a $2.99 cover price and arrives in August.

REVIEW: Shadowland – Power Man #2 (of 4)

Or – “Sweet Christmas…”

Who is the mysterious new Power Man?  Why has he taken Luke Cage’s old code-name?  And why do his arms glow like that?  It’s a slobberknocker on the streets of New York, as Daredevil’s machinations take on sinister new angles and a new hero rises to protect the innocent.  If nothing else, he got the chain belt right.

Iron Fist movie moves closer to production

Marvel has hired Rich Wilkes to draft a screenplay based on the companies Iron Fist character.  This is according to Mike Fleming over at Deadline, who has been on the nose before with his Marvel news. This goes along with the news that Disney if finally ready to start distributing some of the Marvel movie line with Dr. Strange and now Iron Fist in the rotation.

Wilkes is the brains behind the xXx franchise, and considering Iron Fist will need some intense action and plenty of Kung-Fu fighting, I’m all for seeing what Marvel/Disney can do with the character.
