Rapid-Fire Reviews: March Madness!!

Or – “Named For The Roman God Martius, God Of War…”

Not to be confused with famed Martian general Marvin, whose computers are so complex and naughty… Traditionally, this month has signaled the beginning of the season of military campaigns, and also the time when college basketball generals lead their troops unto the field of battle. For me, working in small-market TV for as long as I did, it’s a month which signals mighty pains in the butt, which explains why this is technically the FEBRUARY edition of RFR. We apologize for the inconvenience… Better to just press on.

Youngblood arrives on the iPhone and iPod Touch

Youngblood fans who happen to own an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch are in luck this morning as comiXology has announced fans of the series can buy the digital comic through Comics by comiXology application.

The first Image Comics publication, Youngblood chronicles a high-profile superhero team sanctioned to do the bidding of the US government. comiXology will debut Liefeld’s re-mastered edition of Youngblood, featuring re-scripting by popular comics writer and Ben 10 co-creator Joe Casey. The exclusive relationship with Liefeld is indicative of comiXology’s commitment to preserving top print comics and maintaining strong ties to independent comic book creators.

“We are thrilled to have Youngblood in our catalog and strongly believe Rob’s decision to work with us exclusively is a validation of our leadership in the digital market,” said David Steinberger, president of ComiXology in a prepared statement. “The Image founders have each had a profound effect on the comic industry and the way it views and treats creators, and Rob is no exception. It speaks volumes that Rob has put his confidence in us to bring Youngblood into the digital age. We look forward to working with him and welcoming a new legion of Youngblood fans.”

“ComiXology is at the forefront of the digital comic book age and presented the best opportunity for me to bring the original Youngblood series to new audiences,“ said series creator Rob Liefeld. “ComiXology’s impressive track record in distributing classic print comics digitally gave me all the assurance I needed to know that Youngblood would be in good hands.”

The Youngblood mini-series is available now.
