MOVIES: Highlander Loses Its One

Last November, director Carlos Fresnadillo’s left the Highlander reboot. Now, Ryan Reynolds, the man slated to be the new Connor MacLeod, has walked as well. This leaves Summit Entertainment in a bit of a predicament and the Highlander franchise back in pre-production limbo. Of course, this may also help their chances of finding a new director as they will get to make their own choice of star. My take on this, while I’m disappointed that in the loss of Ryan Reynolds, maybe we should go with a lesser known try to carry the film on its own, without the name of the actor.

What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on who Summit should get next?

Dynamite Entertainment has sent Major Spoilers the cover images to Highlander #12, which features the final chapter to Dynamite’s first year of the Highlander series.

About the Highlander year-end finale, writer Brandon Jerwa added, “Duncan MacLeod and his little band of Immortal traveling companions (watch for the familiar faces, kids) are in it up to their necks this time! No one wants a repeat of the tragic event that ends issue 11, so our heroes have to work fast to stop the bizarre leader of the Eye from fulfilling her own twisted prophecies! And if that’s not enough hype for you, try this on for size: we’ll also reveal the final fate of Connor MacLeod!”

Highlander #10 Kicks Off New Arc

picon.jpg

Dyanamite Entertainment has sent Major Spoilers the covers and solicitation information for Highlander #10, which kicks off a new story arc to celebrate the title’s first year.

In a prepared statement, Highlander writer, Brandon Jerwa said, “We’re going to see the comics debut of some familiar Immortal faces and there’s a surprising change of setting on tap as well. Duncan MacLeod fans will get what they’ve been craving, but that doesn’t mean cousin Connor is left out in the cold. I’ve been determined to make Highlander an accessible book for even a casual reader, but I will drop the hint that a viewing of Highlander: Endgame between issues 9 and 10 only enhances the experience. I could tell you more, but then I’d have to chop your head off…”

Hahahaha – chop your head off. Get it? Because that is the only way to kill an immortal? Well anyway, if a series can make it to the one year mark and still garner enough readers, then it is probably a pretty good story. Highlander #5 made the Top 300 list in March coming in at #147 with 10,971 issues sold.

Connor V. Duncan… To the Death!

picon.jpg

Is another comic character death just around the corner? Dynamite Entertainment sent us the covers for May’s Highlander #8 pitting Connor MacLeod against his cousin Duncan MacLeod.

Personally, I liked the first Highlander movie, and enjoyed the heck out of the Highlander television series and to see the stories continue in comic form is pretty cool. Michael Avon Oeming and Brandon Jerwa have spent time making sure the comics and movies tie in with one another, and this most recent arc explores that connection even further.

More and the four covers after the jump.
