I know a large number of Major Spoilerites have read and enjoyed the A Song of Fire and Ice series of books from George R. R. Martin. HBO is taking the first book in the series, Game of Thrones, and bringing it to HBO has a mini-series. The cable network recently released a behind the scenes look at the adaptation. The series premieres in April 2011.
