Remember last week, when we learned that Paramount had yanked G.I. JOE: Retaliation from theaters? The official reason was to do some 3D-ifying to the flick to sell it to foreign audiences. Thanks to Deadline, we now know the real reason.

This is really surprising news – G.I. JOE: Retaliation was scheduled to arrive in theaters next month (June 29), but suddenly, Paramount has pulled the flick from the 2012 rotation and moved it to 2013.
What did the studio learn between the first G.I. Joe movie and the new one that is scheduled to arrive June 29, 2012? Maybe how to make a movie that actually looks decent?

When I first saw Joe’s work on Supergirl, and then again all over a lot of other comics, including Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars, I knew there was something special about his style. Today, we get a look at his take on G.I. JOE.

Even thirty years down the line, I still hold a fondness in my heart for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. The action figures are one of the first toys that I remember actively wanting (they’re in storage in my garage right now, actually), I can still quote chapter and verse from the comics, and I have always loved the voicework of the late Chris Latta as Cobra Commander. When IDW announced that they were going to be anointing a new Commander in their ongoing Cobra series, I have to admit that I was intrigued. Would this FNG be able to the thrive in the shadow of the old Commander? Or will he forever be enshrined with Mike Nelson, The Sixth Doctor and Shemp Howard in the “I Want To Dig You But Hold Too Much Affection For Your Predecessor” file?
