On the Next Major Spoilers Podcast: Aphrodite IX

This week, on the Major Spoilers Podcast, the crew returns to discuss all things comic book related, and dive into Top Cow’s Aphrodite IX trade paperback.

Sponsor Friday

Hey everyone!  Thanks for taking the time to visit Major Spoilers, reading our articles, listening to our podcasts, and watching our videos.  We really enjoy generating content for you on a daily basis.

If this were a PBS Pledge Break, this would be the point where we ask you to donate to the cause to keep the lights on, but this week, we asking you give a little love to some of our great sponsors.

If you’ve seen The Want List, you’ve seen the fantastic statues Kotobuikya has for the fine art collector, and they have some very interesting products coming up in 2011.

MegaCon has been a regular sponsor of Major Spoilers as they promote and prepare for the 2011 comic book convention. The guest list continues to grow, and it should be a great show.

Show your thanks to our sponsors, by taking a few moments to click on their ads (and all the ads on the Major Spoilers site), and checking out their wares.

Major Spoilers in 2011

As the year draws to a close, it is time once again to reflect on the year ending and prepare to move forward.
We’ve had many success (Critical Hit, The Major Spoilers Store, increase in writing staff, more special features, to name a few), and many headaches over the past year (site crashes, increased costs due to server moves, writers moving on, databases going bonk for the so science could make a move forward).  We’ve mentioned multiple times that Major Spoilerites are free to offer up their suggestions for what they want to see from Major Spoilers.  Now is the time to toss out your ideas for the year to come.

In the past, readers have suggested themes for the Major Spoilers Podcast, increased coverage on certain topics, contests, Poll of the Week, and so on.  One Twitter follower (twitter.com/MajorSpoilers) even suggested a great idea for a future Major Spoilers Store product that will more than likely see the light of day in the next month or so.

Regardless of what many may think, we do read every email and suggestion sent our way.  We certainly can’t approve or initiate every idea, but those that rise above the rest are always taken into consideration.  And because of our busy schedules, it may take longer for certain features to be implemented (cough-return-of-The-Want-List-cough-cough-slackers-cough).

One new feature we do want to get out the door this year is a reward for reaching certain Major Spoilers Achievements… What does that entail?  KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES!

Thanks for being part of Major Spoilers, and for those of you who have become part of the complete Major Spoilers Experience (website, podcasts, Twitter, Facebook, forums, and so on), we thank you even more.  Here’s hoping everyone has a great new year.

On the next Major Spoilers Podcast: Naughty Bits!

This week on the Major Spoilers Podcast, Matthew and Stephen go blue to discuss X-rated comics.  Everything is on the table (so to speak) as the duo talk Penthouse Comix, Ironwood, Xxxenophile, and many more comics aimed at those over 18, and who want to see drawings of people getting it on.

Penthouse Comix

Penthouse Comix was an American mass-market, magazine-sized comic book, published by Penthouse International from its inception in spring 1994 through July 1998, and thereafter by General Media Communications, parent company of Penthouse magazine. Initially edited by writers George Caragonne and Horatio Weisfeld, it ran 32 issues plus one special edition.

Xxxenophile

XXXenophile is an American comic book series, published by Palliard Press and later Studio Foglio. It is an anthology of short, whimsical, erotic fantasy and science fiction stories, written and penciled by Phil Foglio. Each story is inked by a different artist.

Ironwood

Ironwood is a pornographic comic book series written and drawn by Bill Willingham in the 1990s, published in the United States by Eros Comix. It ran for 11 issues.

On the next Major Spoilers Podcast: Tales of the Beanworld

This week on the Major Spoilers Podcast, the crew are tossed a copy of Larry Marder’s Tales of the Beanworld and told to get crackin’.

Tales of the Beanworld is an independently published comic book, created by Larry Marder. Beanworld features stories about the life and times of the Beans, minimalistic characters which Marder has been drawing since childhood. The stories borrow concepts from various world mythologies, popular concepts of ecology, and pop culture.

The first issue was published in 1985, and the series ran 21 issues until 1993. The first four issues were printed independently (under the imprint The Beanworld Press. Starting with issue five, the title was released by Eclipse Comics. A total of four book collections were released, reprinting issues #1-16.

The series was revived in February 2009 and is now published by Dark Horse Comics in deluxe hardcover editions.  Wahoolazuma (February, 2009) reprinted the first nine issues. The second volume, A Gift Comes!, came out in July, 2009, reprinting the remaining twelve.  A new one-shot comic came out in December, 2008. A third hardcover volume, Remember Here When You Are There!, came out in November, 2009, with all new material. Marder says that this completes the “Springtime” cycle of Beanworld stories. Further volumes are planned.
