MOVIE: Doctor Strange still in development

The rumor that Doctor Strange would get the Marvel movie treatment is closer to reality, as the website Twitch reports that scriptwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have turned in their draft of the script to the House of Ideas. The next step will be finding a director.

Donnelly and Oppenheimer are the writing pair behind the new Conan movie and this past weekend’s Cowboys and Aliens flick – and depending on your P.O.V. you may not have high hopes for Doctor Strange.

One of the early rumors early on was that Doctor Strange and other lesser known Marvel character would be getting the mini-movie treatment, ala the Saturday morning serials, that would act as the lead into the feature Marvel presentation.

So today, we asking you, the Major Spoilerites, what would you prefer – A full on Sorcerer Supreme movie, or a series of smaller shorts that lead into a feature Marvel/Disney movie?

Marvel announces Doctor Strange: From the Marvel Vault #1

If you ever wanted to know what Doctor Strange’s first night in his Greenwich Village brownstone was like, Marvel has you covered with Doctor Strange: From the Marvel Vault 1, written by Roger Stern with art by Neil Vokes.

“Over the years, there have been a number of stories that we’ve commissioned but that were never completed for one reason or another,” said Marvel Vice President, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “I and other editors up here have held onto the work that was finished, sometimes for decades, in the hope that eventually we’d be able to see these stories in print.”

“And now, with our office-move, these materials are coming to light once again. In addition to this Doctor Strange story, which was originally intended for the Marvel Universe series we published in the late ’90s, we’ve found four or five other tales which deserve to be completed and printed–so we’ll be doing just that in the months to come!”

The first issue of Doctor Strange: From the Marvel Vault arrives in February, and has a cover price of $2.99.

This family-friendly, action packed episode features Robert Englund as the voice of Dormammu and Jennifer Morrison’s (House, Star Trek) returns as the Wasp!

Marvel also let us know that The Super Hero Squad #1 is now available in comic book stores, and might be a perfect way to get your young one into the four colored world.
