Browsing: DC

Though this is a week late, and the review for the next episode will soon be following, I decided that I would uphold my end of the bargain and review Countdown to Final Crisis #3. Mainly, because I want to provide ~wyntermute~ with another review that isn’t 5/5, but also because I said I would review the last 5 issues (assuming that there is a 0 issue).

DC Comics let Major Spoilers know the story originally solicited for Superman Confidential #9 will now appear in Superman #676. Writer Vito Delsante and artists Julian Lopez and Bit tell the tale of how the Man of Steel met the original Emerald Sentinel, Alan Scott! As a mysterious team of scientists tracks a dangerous threat headed toward Metropolis, Superman learns the first lesson of super-heroism from the man who wrote the book! No word on what’s happening with the story originally solicited for Superman Confidential #9, but I’m sure there’s something waiting in the wings. via DC Comics

EW.com has the first images of the Watchmen action figures based on the upcoming Zack Snyder movie from Warner Bros. The figures look spectacular, I just hope they are truly action figures instead of nicely molded pieces of plastic that end up as inexpensive maquettes for those who can’t afford the real deal. If you happen to be in New York and are attending the New York Comic Con, DC Direct will unveil the first four prototypes on Friday, April 18. BTW: Both figures will arrive in stores in January 2009 with a price tag of $14.99. via EW.com

Or – “Further Adventures In A World Without Tom Welling…” Today’s Hero History marks a watershed in our examination of the history of the Legion.  For the first time, we’re actually going to be looking at THREE different women, bound by a common origin and name, but who are NOT precisely the same character.  Previous Hero Histories have dealt with Legionnaires who might as well have been different individuals between Legion incarnations (Element Lad and Triplicate Girl come to mind) but today’s entrant takes that to the extreme.  In her tenure(s) with the LSH, she showed courage unparalleled, ingenuity without…

It’s going to be a slow day here at the Major Spoilers, as I’m out of town attending a broadcasting convention. Fear not, I’ll be back later in the day for some solicitations from DC as well as some other news. In the meantime, check out this sneak peek of DC/Wildstorm: Dreamwar #1 that arrives in stores this week.

– or, I’m writing this comic and I’ll have as many boob shots as possible! The year 2008 came with the full knowledge that DC would soon see the initiation of its Final Crisis. Countdown to Final Crisis was coming to a close, with week after week of mediocrity robbing what may or may not be the best ‘Crisis’ yet of any credibility simply by association. But all that – no matter how good Countdown finishes off and no matter how good Final Crisis will be – pales in to insignificance by Titans #1. And no, I do not believe…

Or – “Will Anything Ever Be As Awesome As The Things We Did When We Were 13?” When I was around that age, my favorite things included 1,000,000 Dollar Bars, Playboy Magazine, Choose Your Own Adventure Books, and the movie “The Black Hole.”  Now, the chocolate is too sweet, the magazine not nearly as worldly and wise as I had thought, the books predictable and maudlin, and even the wonder that was “The Black Hole” is marred by my internal cinematographer ripping the scenes apart, critiquing the dialogue, and noticing the primitive pre-digital special effects.  When Jim Shooter was 13,…

Another month is upon us, which can only mean it is time for Zuda Comics to roll out another monthly contest pitting web cartoonist against web cartoonist in a no-holds death match…to the death! Actually, it is a little more civilized than that. Instead of giving the artists shivs and having them fight it out while we chant the fight theme from Star Trek, readers are encouraged to vote for their favorite series over at the Zuda Comics website (www.zudacomics.com). Take the jump for the rundown of this month’s entrants.

What was supposed to be the backbone of the DC Universe has failed miserably. But nevertheless we are only a few issues away from DC’s Final Crisis. What will we see? Will Batman die? Will we be left with multiple dimensions, or just one? Will Mary Marvel finally grow up? These are questions that we’ll soon see answered. But has it all come too late for Countdown to be counted as any sort of a success?

Or – “An Ocean Is A Desert With Life Underground, And The Perfect Disguise Above…” Sometimes we set ourselves a challenge that we cannot easily overcome. With the heroes of the Legion, it’s generally a challenge of will, involving combat or the evil machinations of agents of chaos like the Fatal Five. In my case, it’s the realization that there are nearly 100 Legionnaires, and that some of them never actually got their defining moment in the spotlight. Some might consider this to be a liability and write off those particular LSHers as deadweight. Not on my watch, Faithful Spoilerites.…
